help involving a dog kennel!!!

well, i have been jobless for just a couple of days, and a job was presented to me already. i didnt find it, it found me! she called me!
anyway, she runs a dog kennel. there is 214+ BREEDING dogs.
is it just me or does this sound like its going to be a cruelty case! she said just her and her husban run it, and she is having surgery and cannot help him, so she needs to hire someone. also, i will not be getting a pay check, it will be cash. she also said that she really cannot afford to pay anyone properly. i told her i would do it for free a couple of times and see how much i think i should get.
honestly, the main reason i want this job is that it would look great on my applications AND resumes having to deal with a carrer in animals (which i am trying despertly to get)
i just dont see how two people can care for 214+ breeding dogs properly. i also asked her what i would be doing. she said clean the pens, and feed and water them. i asked her if i will need to exercise or play with them. she didnt even reply, she changed the subject.
see i dont really care about not getting paid much. it will be somethign for me to do and gain experiance. but i will not tollerate mistreated dogs!
i think i want to come meet her and see her kennel before i offer to help her out again. she is suppose to be talking with her husban about me coming over and volunteering.

I'm probably going to anger some people by saying this but oh well. There is no way on God's green earth that 2 people can properly care for 214 dogs. I consider myself a good dog owner but Jeff and I have our hands full with just 3! Having 214 dogs would require a huge staff.

If she can't afford to pay someone to help, how is she able to pay for food and vet visits??? You may want to go check it out, then make a report with the proper authorities if they look neglected.

I agree with Scarlette. If she cannot afford to pay you preoperly or anyone, how in the world is she going to afford vet bills and food and other things dogs need?

This to me sounds like a puppy mill or animal hoarder situation. You should check it out and if it is a cruelty case, definatly report it!Too many people are getting away with this kind of thing and it is wrong.

I echo what Scarlette said.... I think it sounds like a very sad situation for those animals to be in

thats what i thought!!!
and she mentioned some were very aggressive and will bite. so she made the statment that her husband would have to come out with me to care for the dogs at all times because of the agressive ones. from the sound of it she has some very mean rotts and a boxer that is for protection purposes.
after she told me everything i was thinking ohh goodness, let me prepare to call the law

plus she mentioned she doesnt normally let people help out because she fears they will be mean to the dogs. hmm, or is it that she doesnt want just anyone to see a bunch on neglected puppies.

I definitely think this is going to be a bad situation. And I'm slightly confused on why she wants your help, if her husband has to be with you at all times why doesn't he just do it himself? It's not like any more work is going to get done that way...

I totally agree with everyone here. Be prepared to call The ASPCA's Humane Law Enforcement department on these people. These animals deserve a better life than they are receiving.

I am so hoping these dogs are not kept in a home....and that there is a place for the puppies to be isolated for diseases.
If the animals are not clean, appear diseased, or anything seems unusual (BESIDES the 214 dogs, which is ridiculous) call the authorities. Having that many dogs is neglect, there is no way those guys are comfortable, much less happy. Yikes.

Are They Her Dog's That She & Her Husband Breed? If So, There Are Limits To How Many Dogs She Can Breed, Even If She Has A Licensed Kennel. I'd Get The "cash" Up-front Each Day. And If This Is An Abuse Case...well You Know What You Have To Do. But In The Mean Time, Someone Who Truley Cares About Animals (you) Will Be There To Make Sure They Really Are Ok. And, By The Way, There Is No Way 2 People Can "properly" Take Care Of That Many!!! Follow Your Heart.

wow...I would defiantly have some problems with this place...thats just way way way to many dogs for 2 people...as stated before, I have 3 dogs and a cta and I feel like a bad mom on days when I can't give them more attention, having over 200 is insane...

I say follow your gut, and if things are as bad as they could be please don't hesitate to call on them...

My granny breeds pomeranians and they are very strict about how many dogs she has. She does pretty well w/them, they are well behaved. I don't understand how they can have so many and not get in trouble. I guess you will have to see for yourself. That's the only way I'd be satisfied. * Do you know where LaGrange is? My sister lives there. She and her husband have an Italian restaurant called "Steve-O's", I haven't been there since they opened, but it got some pretty good reviews. I keep promising myself I'm going...Anyway, I didn't know how far you were from there. I don't know too much about KY, only been there once to my sister's and we only went to Louisville once to shop/eat out. (LaGrange is like the "outskirts" of Louisville, I guess). It's beautiful and I love the weather.
