I'm so proud of this pup!
He's such a doll baby, I'm so in love here!
Let me share what I'm so proud of!
1 - He knows how to sit, pretty much on command. Despite distractions (my mom's yorkie), he's getting it!
2 - He knows (without my telling him each time anymore) that he needs to sit to get his leash on and off. We'll come in from outside and he'll go to the carpet and sit, waiting for me to get my shoes off and catch up.
3 - He pretty much goes to 'bed' without a fuss. He may whine for a minute or two if he's not very sleepy, but for the most part he'll quiet down and be quiet in his crate all night long.
4 - He's learned that he needs to wait for me to set the food dish down before charging it (him wanting to eat whatever I put down right then and there convinced me to do scheduled feeding with him). He waits for my "OKAY!" command and then goes and eats.
5 - He's not had an accident in the house all week! If he needs to go, he gets antsy and whiney and we go out. He's getting the hang of the potty command too, despite the rain we've been having. (He's a priss and doesn't want to get those tootsies wet! )
6 - We're working on the 'down' and 'come' commands and he's catching on quickly with those, too!
7 - He's almost got 'leave it' figured out also. It usually gets his attention. We're working on 'drop it' but I can't expect a pup his age to really get this one yet!
8 - He cuddles sooo well.
Sorry, had to share!

Thumbs up Gumbo!!
He did have sit down very well for a pup. Soon you can start working on just using the hand command without the word. Come is usually the easiest to teach. I'm sure he'll do great!
Don't forget... he gives good kisses!!!

That's wonderful Steph! You got a winner when you got Gumbo!
Number 4 made me laugh. It reminded me of my mom's old dog Purdue. She would tell him to wait when she put his food bowl down in the mornings and then tell him "don't touch". Then she would go upstairs, shower, dress, do her hair and make up and about 1 1/2 hours later she would come back downstairs. By that time, Purdue would have a huge puddle of drool and slobber under his face from waiting. Then she would say, "okay" and he would pounce on his bowl! Kibble would go flying through the air and he would gobble it all up like he hadn't eaten in weeks! Sounds funny, and maybe a bit cruel, but it was her way of teaching him that she was the boss and even if she's not right there, he must obey the rules. Purdue was a very well behaved dog...until you told him he could eat! She would clean up the mess he made every morning simply because it confirmed she was the alpha dog. Needless to say, it never worked with our Chow-chow we had later on, but then, she never tried it with Kayjin either. My father would just shake his head and laugh...even though he would tell Purdue it was okay to eat, Purdue wouldn't do it until Mommy said so!

That is awesome!! Such a smart boy!! And, he must have a good mommy teacher too . Daisy is just learning "sit" and "potty", she does very well for just 6 weeks.
Keep up the good work!!
