canidae also looks like a great brand. there is a place in my area that sells them. i'll have to see if they got free samples. nala is 7 years old and she is considered a senior but she doesn't act like it. when do any of you switch your dog to senior food?

IMO, nutrition is the key to good health in our animals. They can't choose what they eat, we choose for them. It's our responsibility to choose well.

Everytime I see threads like this I get sad. 8( They don't sell any of those good brands of dog food over here... I'm feeding my gang Purina Pro-Plan... I think it's the best around. Other brands I've seen are IAMS, Science Diet (which to me didn't looked better than pro-plan and whas way more expensive...), Pedigree (Yuck), Alpo (Yuck Yuck), Bil-Jac and the other purinas like dog chow, one... ect. *Sight* I really really want that chicken soup starts selling over here... from what I've heard it's great food at a better prince than what I'm paying for Pro-plan. 8(

I have to say that since I've started feed ing my dog Royal Canin he has been doing great. Royal Canin Chihuahua is a great food specifically formulated for them and the food is smaller and I wouldn't necessarily feed them the same food since your other dog has different needs.
ProPlan is very pricey here but a lot of people here really like it. It's up to you to ultimately so good luck with what ever you choose.
It looks like Buffalo Blue is just like most of the other "higher quality" foods on the market. So good luck with that and let us know what you think of it.

I work at Petco, and I'm familiar with Bil-Jac. From what I was told, the food is slow cooked, so it has a stronger odor, which sometimes attracts dogs who are pick eaters. I don't really know much about it other than that.

Your very welcome, sye! So glad I could help! That's awesome that the store is so close!
Yes, Chicken Soup food is pretty new, I'd say in the last couple years or so. Anyone know for sure? My dogs really love it! I have little dogs, too, 2 dachshunds and a papillon. I get them the regular adult formula. Actually, where I got my bag of food, they were selling a 2 lb sample bag (I think it was?) for $1.99! I'm pretty sure they had that for puppies, too, so you could get it for your new puppy to try. That's a good way to get them started on it, like you said, getting free samples JIC they don't like it.
I've heard really good things about Canidae and Royal Canin, too!
Padfoot, are they going to start selling the Chicken soup food there? Cool!

canidae is sending me a free sample. now, i just have the problem of figuring out which food to try first. i'll probably put my chihauhua puppy on royal canin. since chi's don't eat very much, so a small bag of royal will last me awhile and i won't have to buy it very often., and when she's a year old, i'll switch her to whatever nala is going to be eating.

Yes they do make a senior formula. They have puppy, adult and senior formulas. We sell all of those at the store I work at.

when it comes to senior, there is a chart, your vet may have it... Tatyana is 8 years old and she weighs 50lbs.. shes not considered a senior.. shes still an adult... it all depends on their age and their weight..

i just bought an 8lbs bag of chicken soup senior and puppy. i gave some to nala along with the purina one she was eating (ran out of the old one) and she spit the purina one out and ate the chicken soup. the look on her face was funny when she was spitting the purina one out. a 20lbs bag here is like $20 and an 8lbs is $7 i'm not complaining. it's in my price range.

That is awesome, Sye!!! I'm glad to hear Nala loves it! I was going to say, I thought I saw Senior as well at the store when we bought ours. That's an awesome price! Did you end up going to that feed store you were talking about that was so close?

yeah. i went to the feed store. i was thinking of getting canidae. the store that sells it is also close by my house but i figured that chicken soup is more in my price range. once i get my puppy, i'll be taking her off of iams and puppy chow and starting her on chicken soup. i hear that there are a lot of chihuahuas that are allergic to the corn in dog foods. i had a chihuahua a long time ago and he was on iams but then his fur kept flaking and he kept itching and i didn't bathe him and then some one at petco told me about nutro and he did well on nutro. 'scuse me for being lazy but i don't want to go all the way to petsmart for a bag of nutro when i can get chicken soup right around the corner from me. rocky mountain saddle feed is only 5 minutes away from my house. i also buy a bale of wood shavings for my chinchillas. the bale costs me like $5 and it lasts me a whole year. literally. the last time i bought a bale was a year ago and i just now ran out. anyone who have little critters, should consider going to your local feed store and getting a bale of woodshavings.
