Mandie is still with us....

I know most of you are thinking what? right now but I'll explain!!!
10 days ago I bought home an abandoned dog that was bought into work. Her owners moved out and left their animals behind. I didn't know her name and I didn't want to get attached to her so she became 'little dog' (which she answers to soooo well now!!!!) Anyway I thought I had the perfect home for her, this woman was a client of ours and she was very excited, telling me that 'little dog' will sleep with her in her bed etc. and 'little dog' got on great with her dog that I groomed. Well the woman turned up late at night to collect her dogs absolutely wasted. My boss refused her the right to 'little dog' and she cause such a carry on he threatened to call the police on her and she was told to never return to our clinic. (You don't mess with my boss....he does lots of stuff for free for our regulars and so her money just didn't mean aything to him)
So then we had another woman come into work, she is a qualified dog trainer, always rescues dogs, and lived in america for five years training dogs. She lost her 16 year old poodle x the week before and they fell in love....she named her Mandie (and chinchilla girl was happy for me to keep her name at that so she is now called Mandie) and wanted to think about her over the weekend. Well she decided that it was all too soon after her dog which I totally understand. I had another woman lined up but her husband said no more dogs so Mandie is still with us!! I finally got a picture of her today and please excuse her super terrible hair cut! Her coat was full of matts and I cut them all out with scissors. Her coat was really uneven but I couldn't get any time at work to do her hence me cutting them out with scissors. Well today I finally got to groom her but I was having an afternoon off grooming so she got a real quick shave, I need to fix her up!!! I had to cut her coat back so much cause of the horrible condition it was in....poor little darling.

Aweeee Carmen she is adorable....as for the pt image hosting I had some problems with it before, but all you have to do is click on "Quick Links" than scroll to PT image hosting, sign in exactly how your name is on here (upper case and lower case) and use your password, than upload the photo, and the way I do it, is once the photo is uploaded right click on the image name click on properties and highlight all under the url you will see http: blah blah than use the [*img] [*/img] tags before and after the photo's url, without the * of course....If you still have problems, contact Jade as she had to fix mine for me..........
I really hope you can find a great home for Mandie as she is a doll and it is a good thing she didn't go home with that drunken client, omg that could have turned into a disaster for the poor dog......

Kim thanks for the advice on the hosting!!!! she is a doll! She just had a go at Biscuit though cause she didn't want Biscuit getting attention off me! biscuit just admitted defeat and walked away!! So funny watching this little girl beat up my dog! she wasn't too bad though...they are now both sleeping curled up next to eah other!
Alex asked me today how much longer I was going to keep her for before surrending her to the RSPCA. I told him I had to find her a home cause even though I don't want to keep her I will be so upset if I surrender her, I would feel like I was giving up on her too. I don't think he minds her being here too much...I think he was just checking I was still finding a home for her!!!
I'm sooo glad that woman turned up drunk too....it would have been awful. But it has made me really shy of finding her a home through an ad cause I drilled this woman and she came up perfect! she even has her friends ringing work asking if the little dog has found a home. Because of her I'm not re-homing her through work and so everyone just gets told that she has been.
I live half an hour away from my work and I'm going to have to put a sign up at our local dog pool (I'm confident it's far enough away from work to be safe) to get her re-homed cause I'm out of all other avenues. I'll be drilling the people though and if they want to see her I'll be suggesting that I go to their place...if I drive up and don't like the look I'll keep driving!!!

Carmen your doing the right thing...Surrendering an animal is a hard thing to do, and if you feel you can place her than your doing the right thing It's hard for me to say this, but we had to take some of the dog's to boarding yesterday because of the B.S. that is going to happen here today, and well sadly Ajax and Reagan won't be coming home Ajax is our problem foster, and although Darren has grown very attached to him and has done everything as far as training him to trying to teach him right from wrong, and even having Dr.Friz evaluate him for a week, he is the main reason we are having these problems with the italians across the way. So Dr.Friz is allowing us to board them there with her until we can place them. Reagan has a home but won't be for a month, but we have to do what we have to do to try and keep the rest of the dog's and our sanity just incase we can't find another place to live. So yes surrendering an animal is a tough decision.

Kim it will take a lot for me to surrender her to a shelter. I'm sorry that you won't be bringing Ajax and Reagen home....you are a great foster mom so don't beat yourself up. I know you do everything possible for your fosters.

Mandie a dog pool it exactly that! A local swimming pool for dogs! It is heated and has a ramp so the dogs can get in and out easy. It is VERY clean and the place that has the pool also does doggy day care and they'll groom your dog for you too if you want. I take Biscuit to the pool every monday cause she sucks and doesn't like the water but she is getting heaps better and will actually run down on the ramp by herself to follow the other dogs. It's also great for her socialisation needs (she hates labradors but she ended up playing with three the other week) and all dogs must be vaccinated and wormed to go there so it's healthy too (Mandie can't go cause I don't know her vaccination status.)
On another note I'm going to a vaccine shot for Mandie tomorrow so she'll just need one booster when her new family gets her!

mandie - a dog pool is like a dog park. it's a pool where dogs can go swimming! don't you wish we had one here in the states?

carmen - maybe you can print out a survey for everyone to fill out. one of the conditions of them taking "mandie" is that they will have to allow for you to do home visits. you should also get vet references. collect some applications for a while. btw, why don't you want to advertise through your vet anymore?

kim - i'm sooo sorry that this happened. we are here for you!

Jane I don't advertise through my vet anymore cause crazy drunk woman has people riinging up for her asking about the little black and white dog advertisied (we don't have mandie advertised at work!) I didn't want to cause any more conflict between clients and us and so I just decided to re-home her outside of work to make life easier there!!! I like your idea though! I will be speaking to most people over the phone and so I will have a survey that I will fill in over the phone.
Aus works really different here in re-homing animals and if I told them I was taking applications and would decide in a week or so then they would think I was nuts!!! It's just not done (although it should be). Vet references is a great idea, one I hadn't thought of and one I will definently be doing!!!
Here's what I'm thinking of asking them...tell me if you think I should add anymore cause this is my first time with a foster dog!!!

Do you have any other animals? If so what kind and sex are they? (I figure if they tell me they have a male dog this question first stops me from wasting any more time)

What vet do you use?

Do you mind me ringing your vet to ask for a reference? (if they do then they aren't getting her!)

Are you willing to pay to have her speyed? (If not they aren't getting her)

Are you planning on taking her to professional dog training classes?

If so, who are you planning on taking her to? (we still have plenty of choker chain training schools in the area and I will not allow her to go someone who isn't going to clicker train her)

How are you planning on housing her?

How much time are you able to spend with her each day?

I'll be asking about their family lifestyle also.

I do figure though that anyone willing to pay for their dog to swim, go to doggy day care etc. should be pretty ok! We don't have many places for dogs around here so only really spoiled dogs go to places like the dog pool, everyone else thinks we're nuts!!!

Thanx Jane!! Some of those I just wouldn't be bale to ask, cause like I said before Aus works heaps different and people would get offended but I will ask if their fence is dog proofed and if everyone in the family approves of the dog!!! Thanks!!!!
And the health one is great too!
