Thank you so much everyone!
Sharon- Yes! Some hunting breeds do flush! Some people will hunt with 2 dogs - one to go on point - the other to flush. I've seen it done several ways.
For safety and common sense sake, I don't like the dog to flush... if the dog moves while the birds take flight the hunter is shooting right over the dog...
During Hunting Dog Trials for the Pointing breeds- the dogs must stay "Steady to Wing and Shot" - meaning... the dog stays on point like a statue until given a verbal and hand signal that releases him to retrieve. He can mark the birds by watching where they fall then ground scenting.
It's amazing to watch them mark 3 or 4 birds and go back for them one by one, remembering where they are.
I have this great recipe for pheasant... the first time I ate it I didn't even know what it was, except that it was good! See, Jim's family tries to trick me

They don't tell me what I am eating - and I try to be polite and try things.
I am not a meat eater by nature... I just don't like meat.
I will cook some for Jim... and I have a friend who's mom goes nuts over pheasant! So... I end up giving most of them to her.
Did they bring pheasant back? OMG they met their bag limit the first day out on a 2 day hunt. Day 2 they played with the dogs and headed home early. They were a small group of very experienced upland game hunters with seasoned excellent dogs.
Max got some great exposure! He came home with a big proud attitude

Of course- it was raining like heck the other day and he hates going out in the rain so he peed on the floor in front of the kitchen door

Big Bad Outdoor Dog my booty!!
