Max's nubbin (a boo boo)
I just had a question for anyone who might know...on Tuesday, Max slipped on a hard wood floor, and he jammed his nub...who knows how he managed to bump his bum like that, but he did...anyhow, he yelped a little when it happened, but after a minute or so he was fine, at that point we didnt even know what he bumped...we thought a paw maybe...but as the day went on, everytime Harlie would bump him by his bum...like when they were playing, or even if she was just walking by him, he would nip at her when she got around his nub. I knelt down and felt around his nub, and he just gave me this look that it hurt...and the longer I touched it he would gentley mouth my hand...like he was warning me if I moved it around or so that he would possibly bite me. Well we just stayed clear of his hiney for the rest of the nite and just were careful around him...Well then last nite he was sleeping on the couch with me, and I scooted him to move over a little, and I must have bumped his nub, because he yelped and just about bit my face...I know he isnt meaning to bite, it just must hurt. Well my basic question is : Can they break their nubs?? He lets me touch it a little but you can tell it makes him nervous. He still wags it when he see's Josh or Me and when he see's company...and if anyone has had a Boxer before, they know that the nub is a flying little stubby when they are excited...so I guess I just wonder too if they can like sprain it or something...or maybe just jam it. Will it go away on its own, like a broken toe will or a sprained ankle will with a human?? I guess I just wonder if I need to take him to the vet, I just didnt know if they can even do anything for him...anyone know?? I just dont really want him to be in pain.

I promise I will! He loves kisses! I hope it isnt broken...if it can even break...I just feel so bad for the poor guy, last nite when he tried to bite my face, he wasnt doing out of aggression at all...just so everyone knows, he isnt at all aggressive, it was just a reflex I believe...as soon as he did it, I knew he was so sorry because he gets so sad...and keeps licking me constantly like he is trying to apologize...It was my fault for bumping the nub anyhow...I hope it is just bruised and will go away...Because if it is some kind of break...they will probably have to cut open his back where his nub attatches and fix it that way...at least thats all I can think that they would do...who knows...I hope it gets better though.

Yep it's possible. I'd call your vet and ask if you can give him anything or if you can go pick something up to make him more comfortable. If it doesn't seem to resolve then I'd take him in. Poor boy, I hope he feels better soon!

Thanks Jade, I didnt know if they could even do anything about it. I will call them and see if they can give him some pain medication. If he can still wag it, do you think maybe its just bruised or sprained? Or do you think it can still be broken if he can wag it? If its broken, then I want him to have it fixed, if they can fix it, because I know I wouldnt want to live with a broken bone...Thanks for the info!

It may be a lower back injury as well if he can wag it comfortably. Hmm. I'd talk to your vet, see what he/she thinks.

Awwww! Poor Max!! My Max has a cropped tail too! His little nub
I think calling the vet is a good idea. He could have bumped it hard enough to cause some trauma to the soft tissue or even to the bones in the tail or hurt his back.
If he is painful, I'd want to know what he did to himself too.
Poor baby Give him a gentle belly rub for me.
Let us know what happens!

Welp, I just got off the phone with the vet, and she said just to watch it for a few days, and If he needs them, to come in and get some pain meds for him...she did say it was like a toe, where it heals itsself, unless its a horrible break. She thinks that since he lets me touch his nub, and when I touch it is when he shows signs of pain that he most likley bruised it somehow, since he still can wag it. She didnt think it was his back since he still runs around and plays and jumps up on the furniture like normal...one thing she did say, was that as long as he can lift his nub enough to go poop, that he should be ok. Soooo....now we are watching, and if in a few days he doesnt seem to get any better, I will take him in. So wish him luck so his little nubbie heals! I really hope that it gets better...I dont want him to have to have any surgery...he wasnt too happy with us when he had to get neutered...I just wanna wrap his little nub in a cast...imagine how goofy he would look then...lol...thanks for the help guys!
