Mirra can swim!
Before you think "big deal", keep in mind that alot of Bull Terriers can not swim.
Jeff has been staying at his family's cottage on the beach since getting a job up here. We've been taking Mirra for walks on the beach almost every weekend and she normally just wades in up to her belly then runs out. We have never forced her to go any deeper although we try to encourage it. The past 2 weeks Lake Huron has been the warmest that I've known in my 31 years of living near it. Jeff's cousin (Tim) has been here the past 2 weekends with his Black Lab Tarra. Tarra LOVES to swim and fetch those dummy things that trainers use for retrievers. Mirra decided that Tarra shouldn't be having all the fun and took the plunge. At first she needed a little help because she freaked when she got a little water in her ears. After she figured out that she wasn't going to melt she became a swimming maniac. She loves to swim out to the sandbar where it's only ankle deep on me, then run like crazy splashing around. She would actually try to follow Tarra out to the really deep water but we weren't comfortable letting our little tad pole go that deep. We have a long line that we keep on her and if she takes off we can grab that and pull her back if she gets too far away. She's even getting good at retrieving those dummy/floater things. I was joking around with Tim that I might have to enter Mirra in those retriever trials that they show on TV. Wouldn't that be hilarious, a Bull Terrier winning a retriever trial?!
I took pics with my regular camera and I'm hoping to get them developed soon, but who knows if my scanner will actually work!

It's funny because now whenever I take her out to go potty she wants to run to the beach.

That's awesome Rhonda!!! I know it's a big deal! A lot of Satffy's can't swim either. Biscuit is always near water and still only swims for a second, she definently likes her feet on the ground. She has swam before, but her bum sunk and she was doggy paddling vertically so I think it's great that Mirra is doing so well!!! I'd love to see the pics if you can get them on your computer!

That's cool. I want to see some pictures!
One of my JRTs loves to swim. He'll even try to get up the pool ladder just to get in.

Way to go Mirra!! Rhonda, I was surprised to see the title of your thread because as you said, most Bully breeds do not enjoy water. That is so sweet!

Oh, I can't wait to see pics, either!
My friend's Bull Terrier in Sweden likes to take a dip now and them, but he's not much into swimming.
I think it's always good that dogs who have never swam before be around a dog that LOVES swimming. To me, it seems to make them realise more that the water is not so bad.

Go Mirra! I'm so jealous. I'd be so terrified to let Gumbo near a pool or lake - pugs typically sink like little furry stones. Maybe I'll get him some floaties for his legs.
