My Baby is now spayed.
I brought Phoenix home today from the vet. I got them to look at her leg, becuse she was limping for a while, then stopped and then started again. I also got her fixed and her dewclaws removed and her nails clipped. They said nothing was wrong with her leg, just a sprain, so that's a relief. I had to get her spayed because she has vaginitis and the vet said that's the only thing that gets rid of it. I had to get her dewclaws removed because she had gotten them caught in her kennel a few times, they were really floppy. I go back in 2 weeks to get her stitches removed from her feet. I just have one question....how do I stop her from licking her belly and feet? The vet said she wasn't supposed to.

I hope her recovery goes well.
Maybe try an elizabethian collar? That way she won't be able to lick at her sticthes.

The elizabethan collar prevents your dog from being able to reach her incisions and licking/chewing. I'm kinda actually surprised your vet didn't bring it up as an option. I would imagine your vet has them at the office if you need to use them. If you're home with your dog and she isn't TOO intent on licking, you may be able to redirect her enough that she doesn't need one (she probably won't like it). With my first cat, there was no redirecting, and we had no choice but to use the E-collar, but with the 2 I have now, the collars weren't needed. An occasional lick is pretty normal, but if she's really worrying at it, then you've got a problem and will need to look into the collar.

It looks like a lamp shade. You put it around their neck, and they can't reach the incisions.

oh yeah, I've seen those before, I just didn't know that they were called that. She isn't licking that much today, but yesterday I had to stop her a lot.

How is she doing??
Yep,most dogs hate the E-collars.I once had to put one on a dog at the office who had eye surgery,as he wouldn't leave his eye alone and the look he gave me...it was heartbreaking! He hated his collar and looked soooo sad.If only they could realize it is for their own good!

She's doing really well, sleeping a lot, but other then that everything is normal. I look at her stitches everyday just to make sure it isn't getting infected. Everything seems okay!
