need advise for getting my dog used to new kitten please help

About 10 days ago my mother and I came home with a 8 1/2 week old (now 9 week) old kitten. We already have a 12 year old dog in the house that we thought would have no trouble warming up the kittens since when she cam home we had an adult cat by the name of Fluffy that the dog seemed absolutely adore.
At first it was the cat we were worried about adjusting to the dog, since she is or was a stray and she was acting aggressive toward the dog. But after only about 4 days, she warmed up to the dog. The thing is she is now to friendly and wants to try and play with the dog but the dog is deaf and can't hear her coming and is scared of her since she does still have her claws. What I want to know is, is there anyway I can help the dog warm up to the cat to wear she is not totally stressed out when around the cat is around. Or is this something that will hopefully just wear off over time.

I think really the only thing you can really do is closely monitor the time they are together. Make sure that if the kitten is in the same room, the dog knows, (so before you let the kitten play, place the kitten in front of the dog, not up my it's face, just where she can see her so she knows the kittens there) If you think the kitten needs the run of the house for a bit, but the dog needs a rest, put the dog in her crate, or in another room. and vise versa.

I think that sounds like a good idea I think the dog will eventually get used to the cat, the cat is just going through that hyper playful kitty phase. I have actually been considering making a play place for the Kitten so that she does not play with us, or the dog or on your things like electrical cords. I think if she had a designated play place it would be easier for her to she what in the house she can play with and what she is not allowed to play with.
