Unhappy

nervous puppy

hey
our puppy:staffyxrotty
13 weeks old
we have had our little man for just over 4 weeks now and as i guessed he does have a bit of seperation anxiety he is a little shadow and pees everywhere i wanted to throttle him this evening for peeing on the couch!!! our puppy class leader ie the woman who runs it has also picked up that he is a timid dog you tell him off for something and he pees!!! poor wee thing.
i did a search on the site for advice and alot of it suggests crating him getting him use to being by himself and we have tried this he gets so stressed he pees poos vomits and chews everything.
i have put him in the bathroom for time outs(no more than 1 minute usually to give me a breather as we have had alot of stress and i think he picks it up and plays with it) but when you let him out he crowds you and wants cuddles
i am really confused do i comfort him when he is this stressed or do
i ignore him help!!! i want to cuddle him and sit with him on our knees on the couch but is that going to make him think he is the boss?
there is so many different theories which are you suppose to do?

Poor little guy, have you tried playing music when you leave him on his own? Our dog Jack used to howl and whine when left on his own, but one day we put on some classical music and left him there and ever since he's been alright with it...Just an idea, I know when they behave in these ways you can feel at your wits end, it's worth a try.

How's everything in NZ?

will try that but we don't leave him alone as yet if we go out.we have a horrible landlord that will kick us out if he heard one peep out of our furry child(thankgod only for 7 more sleeps)
he is better at basic obediance than he was but even if i go to the tiolet he whines outside the door and if i let him in he curls up in my jeans on the floor lol looks really cute

my dog puppers was like that when we first got him, we did crate train him right off, and I must admit I was a cuddler lol...I was always babying him...I think I was lucky in that he grew out of it as we got him to play more and become more self confident...I wish I had some great advice for you...I know others on here will...good luck with the sweet baby

Crate training is a good thing,if used right. And after awhile the dog will see the crate as a safe spot, his safe spot.

If you don't ignore him,he will keep it up.Any attention, negative or positive is attention and he will see that when he whines or barks,YOU are paying attention to him.He will continue to do that for attention.

yeah we figured that especially when it comes to his nipping and chewing of your clothes but i someho manage to take the object off him i don't speak to him and he is slowly learning.
i have started to leave him alone in another room and only give him attention and a treat when he is quiet and that he is also learning but is not impressed!!!
he is currently asleep in front of the logfore what a heat hog!!!
