Peeing constantly!!
So the craziest thing happened last night....Petey who is now 11 weeks has been doing great as far a house breaking and being a very calm puppy. But yesterday evening I took him out to "get Busy" and of course he did, then he came in and played on his blanket when he all of the sudden decided to pee on it...so I quick took him back out. Then I brought his crate near him and changed the papers in it (cleaned his room) as I was doing this he came in and peed on the paper! So now he peed 3 times in less then 10 min, so then I changed the paper and AGAIN he came in to pee on it!! I also put paper in front of his crate as well, he then got really hyper (so unlike him) and was ripping pieces of paper off to chew on it, and was just going crazy with it!! This behavior was sooo unlike him! Why in the world did he pee 4 times in 10 mins??

Because he didn't get it all out outside. Male dogs are difficult in the house-breaking thing- as they will pee a little here and a little there. Better to keep him out at least 15-20 minutes- and let him keep peeing on stuff until nothing is coming out. But sounds like he is getting the idea, at least- just needs to be reinforced a bit.

Please take him to the vet to be checked for a Bladder Infection/UTI.... according to your description I would at the very least call.

i would call the vet too just to make sure but it sure sounds like typical puppy behavior to me. maybe marking his space?? i'm not sure how young they start that but maybe since you kept changing the paper he kept feeling like he needed to mark it. just stay patient and keep working with him he'll get it.

He is likely also confused by being allowed to pee on paper inside one time then being taken out the next. I would stick with the outside and eliminate the paper training all together. It is just too confusing for him to understand if peeing inside is okay IF you pee here and peeing inside is not okay if you pee here or here but peeing outside is okay no matter where you pee- see how it is too much for him to learn at once?
I seriously doubt it is medical. He just needs to have things simplified and needs to be given more time to do what he needs to do. 11 weeks is very young, too- don't expect him to know what to do rally for a couple of months- and don't expect 100% accuracy for even much longer.

As for the paper, thats what I was told to do by a vet. Really the paper is in his crate so he won't go on his bedding if he has to go while hes in there. But I shouldn't do this?? Or should I just leave paper in there when he is locked in the crate??

I understand what you are saying Leo, and not to worry not only is he seeing the vet on Saturday but he was just there last week as well. He is on 4 medications presently due to having a cold and a few other minor issues. I will be sure to inform the doctor of everything that has been going on!

just a quick question, why are there papers in his crate anyway? i thought the idea of crate training was to make it so he didnt potty in there, maybe your crate is too big for him? or perhaps hes spending too much time in there?

Cheryl, glad he is going to the vet. Like Leo and others said, I would definately atleast check with them on it, it doesn't sound normal to me, either, to go that many times in a matter of 10 minutes. Has he been drinking excessively lately? Maybe it's from the medications he is taking currently, increasing thirst, thus he'd have to go to the bathroom more. I know that happens with medications, it could just be that. I just know my papillon as a puppy would pee all the time, and she was drinking water constantly and it didn't seem normal. They actually suspected a kidney problem, and were checking her BUN levels all the time, blood tests, etc. The vet was very concerned. Thankfully, everything turned out ok after alot of tests and her problems actually stemmed with allergies with food.
My male dog (dachshund) was actually more easy to potty train than my girl dogs, but all dogs are different and I think it depends some on the breed. Some breeds have a harder time with house training than others. I don't know if I missed it, what kind of puppy is Petey?
Hopefully it's nothing but him just being a puppy and on all those medications right now for his cold, etc, but keep us posted.

Thank you all for posting me back, but I must say now I'm sooo confused Is his crate to big?? should he even have a blanket in his crate??
He is only left in his crate for tops 5 hours. He also does drink alot, but what is considered alot?? I do pick up his water an hour before bed, but what about when I'm leaving for work?? I read somewhere you're suppose to have water in the crate as well but I don't do that. HELP!!! So confused!!

Now EL has free access to water 24/7. When he was a little pup, we took it up around 730pm. That seemed to cut down on the nite time peeing a lot.
About the crate....it should be large enough for him to stand up, lay down, turn around etc. not much bigger. if you have a big crate & if he will grow into it, is there a way you can partition off part of it safely? Elvis's crate has a blanket in the bottom, a round soft dog bed & some toys.

The crate really shouldnt be much bigger than he is, going with the theory that dogs dont want to potty where they have to sleep. if its too big he will try to potty on one side and sleep on the other (which never works out as well as they want it to) His crate should only be big enough for him to stand up, turn around and lay down in, i know your prolly thinking thats way too small! but its only until he gets the house training idea. if you have a huge crate you can try to block off part, or maybe someone you know has a smaller crate you could borrow for awhile?
i think he will be ok without water for 5 hours. as long as its not real hot or anything. just be sure he gets plenty when you let him out.. he should have a blanket and a few toys in his crate. a kong if you have one is a great toy for while his in his crate.
