Petey Update!!

Hey everyone!! I haven't been around in a while, I was on vacation. But I wanted to fill yas in on how great Petey's been doing, and also to THANK YOU ALL for helping me along!! Let me first say hes getting huge!! I swear he is pretty much Doberman, his ears are so funny looking being mostly dobbie and not cropping them. I was told he would be about 40 pounds, but last week the vet said at LEAST 50, that hes gonna be a big boy...so not we what we were expecting!! But he is so awesome- he sits, stays, lays down, and gives paw!! He hasn't had any accidents in a couple of weeks either. He just has to get over the biting, he nips me good sometimes (any suggestions?) Today I'm gonna start taking him for walks on my block- any leash training tips? I'm gonna search around for leash tips but any suggestions would be great!! I will post pics just need to resize them so in time!! Thank you all again for all the help!!!

I'm so glad he is doing well!

For leash training, I would start with short walks so that you can go home easily if he seems overwhelmed. The first time we took Tucker for a walk after he was adopted, he was TERRIFIED of a fire hydrant and we had to take him home and try again the next day. Granted, this dog is scared of everything, but still.

After seeing a shepherd come in with a gunshot wound: "You know we pretty much just paid for Ein all over again." (Pats him on the head.) "I'd do it again if he needed us to."

Lesson: Remember to take time to think about what's truly important. Oh, and give your pets a hug.

Just don't let him out in front to lead. You should be the pack leader and that is the best way to teach him that. Watch Cesar Milan. He's great. As for the nipping. I was told if they get crazy to walk out of the room and ignore them. He wants your attention. If you take it away and yourself he is not getting what he wants at all. Not sure if it works but the theory sounds good.
Puppies! I miss that stage and yet I don't....

HeHe!! I will!! So funny thing- My husband got a book on Doberman Pincher yesterday, and I learned soo much! As regards to his nipping at me, I realized the way I treat him compared to my hubby, he views me as his fellow pup!! He totally has no fear of me!! He views my husband as the authority figure. One huge reason is my tone of voice- I need not to talk so high and baby-ish to him. So we worked on alot of things last night, and I saw a huge difference!! I must say it was rough not babying him, but in the end its gonna be worth it!!
