Hopefully things work out okay for you and Petey turns into a wonderful doggy.

I know how hard and frustrating it can be.While I do not have a dog myself at the moment,I DO take in fosters.I sometimes foster puppies, but mainly adults. The puppies can really be stressful. They NEED to learn what is right and wrong and need to play and be trained and all of that stuff. My man doesn't help me either...unless I am gone out for hours, then he looks after my foster babies. But I pretty much do all the work, only because he is not a dog person!

Hang in there!

I have felt your pain in the past! I have a six month old Cavahcon named Daphney and she had me at my breaking point many times over the past few months. I also got to the point where I didn't want to go home because she'd be whining if she was in her crate, or she would be hyper and crazy and destroyed stuff if we left her out. We took her to training and that helped a bit. But I'll give you the main pointers we learned.

First of all, we have been reading the Dog Whisperer books and his main points are that dogs need 1. Exercise 2.Boundaries 3. Affection.

So, for a hyper dog like Petey he'd probably need a 45 min to 1 hr walk every day. This will wear out a lot of his energy.

He also needs to know that you and your hubby are the bosses, not him. One trick to this is before he is allowed a privilege (say jumping on the couch) make him sit first. Also, when you walk him, make sure you go out the door before him, make him wait. Make sure he walks behind you or beside you, not in front of you.

Finally, my trainer said that all dogs need time alone while you are away and while you are home. She suggested an hour a day when you are home. This teaches him that he can be on his own and it also gives you a break. Honestly it sounds like you need a break.

I am trying to remember other points, but I would definitely suggest getting the books and reading them. I also struggled with my fiancee not doing enough of the training or caring for the dog. I got him to read the books as well and thankfully he has more motivation now. I was at the point where I regretted getting the dog. But thankfully those feelings have passed.

I hope things get better for you!

I'm totally about the Dog Park. Mine was a rescue at about 11 months when we first got her, so I'm not familiar with the extreme energy, but if there's a dog park although you won't have the control over the pup, he will be in a safe area that you know 1. he won't run away in, and 2. he's a puppy, so he's most definitely going to get love from every person and dog he walks by!

Also when you train, try to do it after a walk or something mid exhaustive. Probably not after a park trip, but after a walk in the morning, or a few rounds of fetch. At that point, the extreme hyperness should have worn down even a hair, and you can get a lot more done in a session. Like they've said before, stay stern, and let him know who's boss. He'll get it, and don't be surprised if he picks it up faster from your husband since he's a man, I've found that the dogs respond to guys faster. Just keep it up and you'll get it eventually!

Good luck!!

one of my Goldens is like that, shes so high strung...we walk her over 2 miles a day and we have a HUGE HUGE yard were we play with her non stop in the morning for 2 hours, in the afternoon for usually an hour and then at night they are out from 6-10 doing nothing but play and commands...she just turned a year and shes making alot of progress She now lets me love on her (not to long but hey its a start) she will now sit and stay and wait for a treat till I give it to her (wooohooo no more knocking me down) and she no longer jumps (our trainers told us a slight knee to them when they jumps works and after forever it did lol) so I am so glad hes doing better and just remember that the puppy stage is always the worst lol...

I have an aussie and he would get so antzy all day that we got him into fetch and frisbees...kept him focused and his behavior got way way way better Hes an amazing dog now, my best friend and sweet heart

Good luck and I hope it all works out
