question about female toy poodles

I have two female poodles and my oldest poodle who is 7 months old is in heat. The question I have is...does the swelling go down to signal its over? My brother in law has a male toy poodle, and I just wanted to know when its safe to bring them together without any surprises lol. I've never dealt with this before, so forgive me if I sound dumb.

NO... the swelling going down is an indication of her being "ready". They generally get less swollen and "spongy". Females are generally ready to convieve about 7-10 days after the blood stops. I would wait at least 3 weeks from the first sign of her heat cycle before allowing any contact. Then make it only supervised for another few weeks. Just to be safe
