Rabies vaccine

Well I am obviously going to ask my vet about this but I wanted your opinions. I went to go license my dogs a week ago and they wouldn't allow it unless my dogs rabies vaccine was good through November of 2003. That would be fine but my dogs just turned 1 year and their vaccine is still good for another 6 months. My husband being a human doctor is very sceptical about over vaccinating and doesn't think they should have to have it right now.

Anybody have any experience like that? It looks like with the snow we might not be going to the vets tomorrow after all. But I can't wait to hear what the vet says about this one.

they require proof where you go? There are two places where I can get our dog's tags, neither place askes for proof, just asks if it's been done.

I don't believe in over-vaccinating either, thankfully our vet has changed her shot schedule's too.

Maybe a letter from the vet for the license place?

Hmmm that is very interesting. Here in PA dogs have to be licensed by 3 months, but my vet doesnt give the first rabie shot until 16 weeks. I hope they dont give me any trouble with it.
You can get fined for not having a license but they wont give you a license without rabies shot. Of course your dog is a little older than mine so maybe it is only the case for dogs over a year or something.
Also I have been reading all of the reseach that says you dont need to vaccinate every year. Some vaccines last up to 7 years. They ar in the process of changing the law so that If your dog is vaccinated at a year for rabies he doesnt need to be vaccinated for three years. This is actually the law in PA but many vets dont tell you this because they lose money if you dont come in each year.

In NJ it differs township to township. The reason why they want them vaccinated through November is because they work on a calander year so you have to work around them not your dogs health schedule. If I get a letter from my vet then they let it go but then I have to get a letter every year for the life of my dogs or until they change the law. What a pain.
