Yeah i will look at the pups and decide. I have my two husky shepherd pups. I might just need to look for a better breed of pup. I was thinking of giving one of my dogs to my aunt who really wants to have a dog in her house. She has a lot of medical problems with her husband right now he had a stroke 10 yrs ago and is starting to slip mentally. She has a dog that she dog sits now and she snapped at me twice and i could see chow in it. I told her that she should think twice about her. So i think I will think twice of it and get my daughter a different breed of dog or get her some fish that she can enjoy.
The fish might be better. I think that is what I will get her. She will have my neighbors puppy to play with. She was upset that i had to leave our 2 fish tanks behind when we moved.
thanks for all ur help. I think it really helped me clear up my decision.

I'm glad to hear of your good decision...I love Chows and Sharpais but it just isn't a good choice for your current circumstances and I would hate to have something happen to your daughter because I didn't speak up.

I hadn't planned on responding to this post because there's so many excellent posts, but I thought I should share what happened to me. When I was young (age 4), I was attacked by a dog. I wasn't the first child to be bitten by this particular dog, and after I was bit, my older brother was the victim of a bite from this same dog. Later, roughly about a month, we'd just come home from shopping and I was standing by mother's feet (she was still in the car) when the dog escaped from his yard and bit me yet again. I have scars to this day on my back from that last bite.
For both me and my brother, the attacks were unprovoked. That dog hated children, and my guess would be that he'd been teased by another child when he was a pup. Even when we were older, our dog became pregnant by this dog (our dog should've been leashed and that other dog should've been put down). She had a pup that my parents kept. What happened? That pup was uncontrollable and he was also a biter.
We probably played rough with it, but I've no idea because I don't have any memories of Shaggy as a puppy. I can only recall the second bite and the bite my brother received. The saddest part of this whole story? My parents did not have Shaggy put down...and all of us were afraid of him. Only my father could control him, and even then, Shaggy had to be kept on a chain at all times. He'd bite any and all who came near him. As a result of those two dogs, my older brother is afraid of them...and to some extent, so am I. Through the love and understanding of my cousins in the past couple of years, I've finally made it to the point where I'm confortable around most animals.
I love Charlie (my new dog), though I will admit that I was a bit intimidated when he growled yesterday morning. I watch him like a hawk. Having been the victim of a dog bite, nothing makes me more viligent when there's other animals or people around. He seems okay with them so far...but my point is, the pups that mouth your daughter now for what she does will get the message that it's okay to bite unless they stop putting their mouths on her hands. Either that or some other child may become the victim of aggression. Not that I'm being harsh (we love our animals, lol!), but it's something to watch out for. No dog, even a puppy, should get the idea that it's 'okay' to put their mouths on parts of the human body.

Hello I am New and Shar Pei / Chow Mixes
Hello, I have just joined this group . I am 59 a mother of 2 grandma to 4. I have had several animals in my adult years, from dog, cats to chickens and dairy goats. I am now waiting to recieve my service dog/ life partner/ new best friend.
I would like to reply to one of the post regarding Shar Pei/ Chow mixes. My sister just lost her 15 yr. old Nickie a Shar Pei / Chow mix. He was a reall good dog but he was a one person dog. My sister was the one he loved the most. He was her companion always. He didn't mind sharing her with her husband but he let him know who he protected. I could do just about anything with him because I sound just like my sister and I guess he thought she changed her hair color or got shorter . He was a good watch dog but cats, birds and children didn't come in the yard. Now he was different as a puppy but as he got older is when he didn't let kids and other things in the yard.
My sister is looking for another Shar Pei/ Chow mix it won't replace Nick, but will maybe fill the empty place in her heart.
Thanks for letting me share.
Blessings,
Nettie
