*sigh* It never ends (please think of Miss Colleen)
Okay, personally, I think we've had more than enough vet bills for one month, so can you please tell the health fairie to leave my sweet babies ALONE?
First we had the medicine for Tucker's red foot: $39 (which by the way is red again because he's eating it again. Gotta be allergies. He's now on Benadryl like Ein is)
Then, Ein's shots and Colleen's check-up/eye tests/eye medicine: $303
Then back to the vet a week later for a follup visit on Colleen's eye: borrowed Lucas' card for this one because I was tapped out. I think it was around $40.
Monday, medicine for Ein's leg because his allergies were acting up real bad and he was chewing his fur off. (same med Tucker had) Picked up heartguard while I was there. $120
Grand total: $502 to the vet's office.
Now Colleen's OTHER eye is having problems. Bright red, swollen, oozng yellow gunk. All due to the misformed tear ducts she has in both eyes, I suppose? Fortunately, the vet said that the antibiotic eye drop they gave us was always safe to use and we still have plenty of the anti-inflamatory she was on before, too.
Please think of Colleen. Her eye looks very painful. She was barely holding it open last night. It looked a little better this morning (gave her meds last night), but still bad. Please pray that the meds we have work for her. If she is not better by this weekend, we'll be back at the vet on Saturday to try another medicine.

Her eye looked so much better when I got home from school last night. Just in case it was the start of an eye infection, I'm going to keep her on the meds for about a week. I want to make sure all the infection is gone so that she doesn't get it back right away from stopping antibiotics too soon.
Thanks for thinking of her.

It's finally starting to look back to "normal" for her, thank goodness.
If it happens again, we're going to take her back in to the vet. I understand that improperly formed tear ducts can make her eyes drain, but I don't see how it could make her third eye swell and get all red. If it happens again, they need to see it and either help us fix it or give us lots of refills on her meds so that we can make sure she doesn't run out.
Thanks for thinking of her and asking about her.

Poor babies! I hope the health fairy comes your way ASAP! If I see her, I'll be sure to push her in your direction.
Hehe, while off topic, I'm curious: Nicole, what vet do you use in BTR?

We use Sherwood South Animal Hospital. It's on Sherwood Forest Blvd between Coursey and I-12.

You are the second or third person that has mentioned that place to me! A co-worker said it's a little more expensive than some other places, but the service is excellent and she knows her baby is being taken well care of.
I think I might have to switch if I keep having that place recommended to me, hehe.

About Colleen's eye- we had a foster kitten that had the same thing- gunky eye- and vet diagnosed it as un-/ill-formed tearducts. As I understood it, since it couldn't drain properly, it would swell ad become irritated and sometimes infected. Besides the eyedrops, he had us to massage just under the corner of her eye several times a day. It was pretty gross at first because lots of gook would come out, but as it started to get better, it would just help her eye tear a bit, cleansing like it should. Maybe that will give you an ide- and hope her eye and all your critters get better and stay that way!

Thanks for the suggestion about massaging her eye. We'll give that a try.
Rowan, they are a little bit more expensive, but they are well worth it, I think. The people there are very nice and obviously love working with the animals. Even though they see tons of patients, they always seem to remember me and my pets. If I go in without Ein (who they have been treating for 2 years, since we got him as a puppy), they still remember that I am his mommy and ask how he is doing.
From what I understand, they have pretty good technology, as well. Fortunately, we have never needed the modern equipment in their operating room, but it is good to know that it is there and that in case of an emergency, my dogs will get the best care available.
