Sophie's not feeling well...
Sophie, my Cocker Spaniel, is sick today . She has diarrhea and has thrown up three times. I think it might have been a new treat I had given her...I didn't realize they were so rich. Anyways, I know first you should fast them for 24 hours (she didn't want to eat this morning anyway) but then your supposed to give them rice the next day instead of their regular food. But I think that the rice would just make her sick again and she doesn't tolerate food changes very well. Do you think I could try a little normal food tomorrow? Is there anything else I should do? If she's still like this on Monday I'll definately bring her to the vet but I don't think it's really an emergency...she's a sensitive dog and it's not unusual for her to vomit (it's just usually she doesn't do it this much). When she was a puppy she was ill alot .
I also noticed she isn't drinking much but I don't really know how much a dog should be drinking in the first place. I could tell her to drink (she's obedient and will do anything I ask) but I'd rather not have her force herself to drink if it isn't needed.
Thanks in advance.

I hope she gets better soon! Keep us updated. Sorry I don't have any advice, I don't know much about dogs.

I am sorry to hear Sophie is sick. You can give your dog Pepto Bismol or Kaopectate to calm her stomach. All natural, canned pumpkin stops diarrhea as well.

Thanks, everyone .
I know that I can give Pepto Bismol but I looked and we don't have any. Figures . I'll probably look again later.

hello , what i did with scooter when he wasnt feeling to well, i gave him 1/2 cup of chicken broth. 98%fat free. he loves it. plus in the winter time i give him once a day. usually if the dog wont take anything, they usually drink thebroth. Of course check with your vet first. good-luck.

I was going to say that you need to get some fluid into her because the main worry with diarrhea and sickness is dehydration. My vet told me to cook a chicken and mix the juice from it with water when Poppy suffered dehydration last summer. I know you're vegetarian but maybe the soup thing would help if you can get hold of some, It's less gross than cooking a chicken! Anyway I really hope she's doing better now, I know how worried you must be. Let us know how she is!

Today she is feeling slightly better. She's drinking again and just ate half a cup of rice. Immediately after eating it she had a little diarrhea but it wasn't as bad as yesterday and she hasn't thrown up since late last night.
I'll keep you guys updated.
