Spaying Gone Bad! Horrible!

So, Peaches (my brothers one year old english bulldog) went to get spade Wednesday and stayed the night to make sure everything went well. So my brother went and picked her up Thursday and a few hours later Peaches was bleeding and her stitches came out.
So my brother took her back to the vet and he said it was a freak accident that shouldn't have happened that he would re-do it for free and that he was "terribly sorry".
So, my brother picked her up Saturday and she was alright until we heard her panting, looked and saw her abdomen was STICKING OUT. Literally. It was hanging out of her stitches, blood everywhere, puking saliva and we were freaked and went to the emergency hospital. She was JUST sleeping and that happened. She hadn't been playing or anything.
They said they had to do surgery, take blood tests, and do a whole lot of other stuff for $800.00 :0
My brother was getting ready to pay and she said (very rude), "You can NOT pay in payments" Well, I told her that I brought my other dog here and it was over one thousand dollars and we paid in payments. She kept on telling me that they didn't change their policy and they had been there for five years and such and such so I told her to look it up. Well, she looked it up and sure enough I was right.
She wouldn't let us pay a payment or anything. She was also just very rude.
Anyways, my brother couldn't pay RIGHT there and I didn't have ANY money or a check book or anything or else I would have lent him the money. So it was three thirty in the morning and he was left with no other choice then to wrap her up in bandages, put an e-colar on her, pay fifty five bucks and wait until 7:30 in the morning to take her BACK to the vet for free.
We get home and not even fifteen minutes from the place her bandages come off! So her bandages come off and her abdomen was hanging out again so we refixed it.
We took pictures of her stomach to show the vet and we are going to complain. I feel terrible for Peaches. She hasn't chewed on her stitches or anything. It just came off.
The doctor looked and ALL of her stitches were there, so I am guessing part of her abdomen came out in BETWEEN the stitches? Or that is the way she explained it.

I would post pictures on here but they are VERY graphic :\
I took pictures to show the vet how horrible he did so we could prove our point.
If anyone wants pictures I will PM if you want.

Anyways, I have to get up in two and a half hours to go with my brother to take her back to the vet and complain my booty off.
Poor Peaches I feel terrible for her.
Wish us luck!

Oh my goodness, that is horrible! I don't think you should have to pay a thing, only the original amount for the spaying. The vet obviously didn't do a good job, are the stitches far apart? I can't understand how her abdomen could just start coming out. I would change vets after this mess is over. I hope everything goes well with Peaches. Good Luck!

Please let us know how she does. And make sure she gets antibiotics after all that. I am horrified.
I will be sure to keep her in my prayers all day.

What kind of stitches did they use? I've never had a female dog, so I don't know anything about spaying. Anyway, I've read that sometimes the body simply rejects those "dissolving" stitches and it complicates the healing process a whole lot. But if that was the case it seems like the vet should have recognized the problem the first time she came out of the stitches.

Hope everything ends up ok. And unless the vet has some reasonable explanation for not fixing this right away, I would switch to a new one!

Well everyone, we took her to the vet and waited outside until they opened and he was apologizing. He said out of twenty five years of doing it, this has happened only four times but not as bad.
I think he just did not put the stitches close enough together or something so part of her abdomen starting going out THROUGH the stitches. She has to stay at the vet for seven nights and eight days. I hope she is ok
They have to flush out her abdomen or something and go and look through her body walls to make sure she did not get an infection. They think she could have gotten an infection because it was sticking out and some dust or something could have gotten on it. They are especially worried because she was puking. They said she SHOULD be ok unless there is an infection...which the lady at the hospital said it could be very likely, that she was not going to lie. Oh dear. Make it peaches!

oh man i hope she's okay. i know when a spaying is done, there are at least 2 different layers of stitches. so the inner layer sound slike it's come undone. if i were you i'd get her all fixed then walk you and not pay them, this is ridiculous, if it was a human you could SUE FOR MALPRACTICE and have that VET LOSE ITS LISCENCE

Oh my goodness She'll be in my thoughts and I really hope she makes a great recovery! I've seen that happen on a human in the hospital after a hysterectomy. It was no one's fault and sometimes it really just does happen (in this case, the dissolvable stitches were rejected in some way so they let go too soon and when we went to take the external sutures out, there was too much pressure on the skin and the whole belly opened up). I don't know if that's the sort of thing that happened here or if it was an error on the part of the vet but it definitely should be something that should looked into.

Oh please give us daily updates. I have been thinking of her all day long. I hope she is okay. I was so worried that she would pick up an infection from being all open. They had better take really good care of her. Be nice with them for now. Don't argue or threaten anything until she is out of there and healthy again! Make them think that all will be fine as long as she pulls through. After she is better than do what you feel you should.
That is scary.
And the other vets office should have an official complaint against them. They really should have treated her. After all how many people have that much money up front? Geez. They should be ashamed of themselves!
