I used to be afraid of Pits, until I met my Boyfriend, his dad had 2 huge pitbulls, they were as sweet as could be. Now me and my boyfriend have a pitbull/staffardshire terrier mix saved from the pound and he is very sweet also (just a little hyper) but I trust him.
I think it is all in the way you treat your dogs, yeah they have it in their blood being bred to fight and all, but if you do not provoke the behavior, like fighting them... there is no reason (i believe) that anyone should be afraid of them. And if their behavior has gone astray there are people out there that teach dog psychology like the dog whisperer (Caser Millan) I really like his work in rehabilitating dogs behaviors, especially the dogs that have turned aggressive. Check his website out, he believes there is no dog that can not be helped, they can all be nice temperment dogs.

I had a friend who's family bred pitts. They were sweet sweet babies. One, however, was stolen and used for fighting. They got the dog back, but she was never the same. She eventually killed some cats and attacked a young child and was put down.
Sad what people do to dogs.

Thank you for everyone who has posted links and is sharing their personal experiences, it's comforting to know people have similar feelings, and great to meet people who have had such great experiences with the dogs.
I found the flash videos particularly well put together. Great stuff.
Thanks guys

Not unlike Tiff & Jerry, I used to be scared of pit bulls too. I belived the press and all the pit bull haters... but then changed my mind and love them now...my friend has a brown nose pittie named Rupert and he's a baby. My mom hated them, but after going to a pit bull show learned to love them as I'd been trying to hard to convience her to do
Welcome to VictorinosKennel.com!!! Home of some of the Finest American Pit Bull Terriers on the West Coast!
Visit the website above, its a pittie breeder in WA. I met him and his dogs, and both the breeder and the tons of dogs at the show were absoulutly awesome

I totally love pitbulls, staffies and all bully breeds. They have a bad rap.Unfortunatly there are ALOT being bred and so many end up in the wrong hands. There are no evil or bad dogs,it is the actions of the owners that affect the dogs.
I have met several sweet pitties. And an old friend has a pitbull/whippet mix who is the sweetest and biggest sook ever! I also knew a sweet, babyish pitbull...he was awesome, would never hurt a fly. Then someone went in the yard and poisoned him.
People are sick!

Just wanted to let you all know, I took a big step yesterday. Went to pick something up from a fellow freecycler and they had a pitt mix and I stroked him. He was actually a really sweet little dog
Sounds silly, but a big step!

I don't know if this has been said but any dog can become a vicious dog. i had one that growled at my cousin and tried to bite her and she was't a pitt. Our pitt loved the attention and would smother you with kisses if you gave her a chance. She doesn't like two people but never has tried to bite them. The people she doesn't like are mean to their dogs and were mean to her. She may not like them but I don't think she would ever bite them unless she was provoked. The pitt is the sweetest dog I have ever known...next to Waffles and Maggie (RIP).
I used to believe the myths that pitts were vicious and killers until I moved next door to my parents current neighbor where his pitt fathered Panda (our pitt). TJ (Pandas father) was a sweet ole pitt and would protect you with his life! Panda has had a wonderful life and she may be misunderstood by insurance companies (becuse some won't insure your house if you have a pitt (STUPID!)) but I wouldn't trade her for the world.
That's my story and I'm stickin to it LOL

I never thought that pitts and staffs were the only vicious dogs out there, let's get that straight
If you read my first post, I explained my fears, it has very little to do with the media's demonization of the breeds.

It was really nice, he was really friendly. Like a big baby really, reminded me of a rescue dog I fostered for a little while, Murphy. Nice short, soft hair.

well you live in London the worse place in the UK in my eyes for people getting dogs that look like pitties and abusing them and therefore they become aggressive, it's all down to the emount of x breeding that people do to get a dog that looked like a pit, like my 2 dogs there x breed staff x bull terrier and many ppl think they are pitties. Its all the gangtsa wannabes that runi if for the rest of people who love and respect the bull breeds, we've already how loads of bull breeds banned from the UK, but still the puppy peddling goes on the ppl who do this don't care about where the pups end up and what happens to them all they care aboout is £££££.
So well what i think is well you where just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the dog propably didn't no it was doing wrong as well as you all know staffs, pit, and other bull breeds are always trained for dog fighting, its been banned from before i was born and its still going on today!!!

I love pitties... they are a special breed that need special owners..
They have an amazing jaw, and are very loyal.. so that combo leads to people training them to use their jaw to attack, fight, and scare... too many people love them because of their bad rep and that people tend to have a fear of them... so they play it up with spiked collars, training them to bark and growl and snarl at things.. it's not fair for the breed... some people just shouldn't be alowed to have other living things around them...
bulldogs are also one of my favorite, i love english, french, and american... they are also the same as pitties.. loyal, strong, and willing to please... they want to make their owners proud.. and when an owner wants something bad... its a bad combo.
