Surgery for Creole: Round Two
I just got back from a local (well, an hour away) surgery consult for Creole. In short, he's very lame on his left rear leg, which is the one that had the worst injury when I got him. We're going to have to take the pins out of his bone and rebuild his knee, essentially. The surgeon seems confident it should restore him to a good quality of life and let him use the limb, provided all goes well. He'll never be 'normal' but we should be able to reduce his pain level significantly and get the leg back into a more usable state.
I was very impressed with the surgeon himself, as well as very appreciative. He used to work for a branch of the office I left when I moved and due to that as well as Creole being such an involved (and expensive) rescue case, he gave me 30% off the consult/meds and said he'd do his best to keep the bill under $2000. Hubby and I were planning for $3000, just to be safe, so this was a very nice surprise. There are good people in this world ...
He also said if I wanted to pick up some emergency shifts to give him a call.  I told him we'll see how involved Creole's care was and go from there.  That's a bit of a drive for a job but there aren't any around here, so I may consider it. We'll see.
Anyway, surgery is scheduled for the 15th. Cross your fingers for us!

Oh, here's a recent pic b/c I know someone's going to ask. 
He's 50 lbs as of today and only 8 months old. Hubby is going to come home to a much bigger dog than he left!  |
