Swollen hips, Unhappy Doggy

Friday evening my dog Whizzer yelps from downstairs, and then comes up the stairs slowly 'sulking', and when she get's to the top act's all submissive. I checked her out a bit, and find nothing wrong.
Whizz goes for a walk that night with her Daddy just to the mail box and back, she's happy and jogging along. When she get's home he hears her kind stumble a step going up the stairs.
They come home we all go to bed. When i woke up in the morning i see Whizz isn't on her bed (at teh foot of our bed) but in front of out bedroom door.
Thinking she probably need to go to the bathroom I let her out for a pee, and as I'm feeding the bunnies, i hear Whizz cry from outside, and so i run outside and see her squating and peeing, but she's obviously in pain.
She comes back up the stairs and flops over submissivly again, I check her rear end and as i pull her tail away (that is tucked right close to her body and between her legs) she yelps again and urine comes out. I though at first Anal gland infection again... but this didn't seem right, it happend all to sudden.
So I call the Vet and make an appointment.
Poor Whizz She stayed outside on the deck untill it was time to go, and when she got into the car she cried again, But didn't cry when she got out.
The Vet felt aweful b/c Whizz was in so much pain as she was trying to find out whats wrong with her, Whizz actually was peeing on the ground (though her bladder was empty when the Vet checked) she was so frightened, totally not like her.

It seems both muscles on either sides of her hips are swollen, causing her all this discomfort when she tries to squat, go 'up' something or if they are touched. So she got an injection of metcam (i think?) and we can home with some metcam for 5-7 days.
The thing is we have NO CLUE how she could have hurt herself, nevermind both sides of her. She's a fit dog, 9 years old and never had any real problems. She's also in indoor dog and with us all day when we are home, she follows me around like a shadow. She hadn't done any real excersize, she's prety laid back, and when we are not home she's in her room.

I feel terible, my poor dog can't walk up the stairs, she's misrable and I don't know how this happend. I'm hoping the metcam will hurry up and help her, but so far she seems worse then before.
If she's not better in a week, or it get's worse we're back to the Vet.

The Vet asked me if anyone could have kicked her, as that could have caused such an injury. But as I said she's never out of our site. This is all from the dog who jumped out of a third story window with no injuries, and out of our tiny camper window that is 11 feet up again, no problems. (yup, seperation anxity at it's best)

Anyone heard of muscle inflamation like this from anything else?
I feel just terrible

Poor Whizz. I hope she is feeling better soon. I understand how hard it is to watch your baby in pain. Frank hurt is back leg as a puppy. It was HORRIBLE!
Hopefully she just strained her muscles somehow.
She doesn't have any ticks does she? Can't Lymes make joints hurt? It's just a thought.

aww poor baby...it is so hard to have any of our babies be in pain, it makes you feel horrible, I am just so sorry...Puppers hips swell often due to arthritis, he has some pills he has to take for it, but its usually managable...I hope your baby will be ok

Thanks everyone,

Whizz is doing much better. I gave her beef rice with her medicine in it this morning, and she was a very happy doggy. But she was affriad to leave the couch, when I finally convinced her to move to pee outside she was so surprised she didn't hurt, she peed and then ran across the whole yard!
I told her that wasn't going to help her get better.

So we've kept a close eye on her and made sure she rested alot and didn't do many stairs, and she seems SO much better.

As for the ticks question, we don't have trees where we are, and no ticks. She's been vacinated for lyme also, My poor Aunt sure is wishing she was, she got Lyme disease from a tick in the UK where she was on her honeymoon

I just wanted to update that I took Whizz off her meds yesterday and watched her all day, and well she's back to her old self again.
I sure do wish I new what she had done to hurt herself, but am also glad it wasn't serious and could be fixed with a little bit of rest and some meds.

Thansk everyone

Glad to hear she's doing better. I hope she isn't starting to get arthritis.
