the Chewy tales, another reason to crate train.
Ok... ya'll may find this amusing. I do too, but it wasn't quite so funny when I came home to it.
Keep in mind, all our dogs are crate trained and I always highly encourage it. This is just proof positive that big dogs get big bored.
We went to walmart the other day and hubby thought maybe this short trip would be a good opportunity to see how Chewy handles not being crated. We argued, but I let him win. NOW he knows better than to argue with me.
We were gone all of 30 minutes mind you. I am in the process of packing of course. I had taken the dogs heartgard out and placed them on top of my desk so I could pack it in the dog backpack. (all my dogs shot records etc are carried with me across country in a backpack, and filed in 3 ring binders for easy acess). The heartgard was to be put in there too. *also note the top of my desk is 4 and a half feet at the top shelf... where they were*
We came home to find ALL the heartgard on the floor and eaten. Everyone looked guilty, but I knew who got them down. The mischief man himself. Immediately I called the vet. Not knowing who ate what or how much, but it was all gone. I had a 3 month supply for Gazoo, Rebel, and Kalea... a 6 month supply for Legend, and 10 months for Chewy. (except legend each gets 2 pills a month based on their weight). Thankfully, the vet said they'd be fine it won't hurt them. She was dying laughing though as she said the only thing this will hurt is your pocket book to replace them.
So... note to self. Don't let hubby win battles anymore. UGH!!

Yikes! Wow! I'm at a loss for words, not just because of the $$$, but I'm surprised that the stuff won't hurt them if it's ingested.
Did you tell him "I told you so!"

Yes I did, and took great pleasure in it.
I was shocked too, but she said they'd be fine and they are thankfully.

 Poor Chrisanne.
Yep, I get calls for this ALL the time. The maintenance dose of the med is so low it does the job but higher doses aren't harmful.

Man!! That sure sucks money wise!! That was a lot of heartworm pills!! And yep, Max did this once...but he only ate one extra pill...and we were still freaking out...He was just a couple months old and he still had the little ones since he was still little, and he gobbled his up, and when I handed Harlie hers, which was for her full grown weight, she played with it a little, then started to eat it, but dropped it, and guess who ran in and stole it from her within about 1.5 seconds...lol. At first we were freaking out because he had his and Harlies whole one, but the vet assured us he would be fine even if he ate the whole package. But I still feel for you!! Thats a lot of pills to replace!

I would have taken great pleasure in the "I told ya so!" too!
Wow, I know how much it costs for 2 good sized dogs... ! I know you were thinking that - as long as they are ok and not harmed....
Amen for crates!

Yep!! As long as they are ok, all is well in my mind. Sure, I didn't want to pay that price again. $216 to replace a 6 month supply for them all.
Chewy just gets more expensive by the day. :tongue2: Oh well, gotta do what i gotta do. And to think, hubby wants a second newfie once we're settled.
