The Doggie Dooley

Does anyone have one of these? Pet Waste Removal: Doggie Dooley In-Ground Pet Waste Digester Systems

If so, does it work well? I just got one and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works! Normally when we scoop poop we just toss it in the far corner of the backyard. Well, by the end of summer it gets pretty gross over there, plus Sydnee loves to snack on turds, so having a big pile of poop in the corner makes it easy to get her fecal fix.

I think we're going to dig the hole today and install it. This should be interesting.

wow that's SO cool. i've never heard of it before, please post about it more! tell us if it's working. it strikes me as the same septic idea as campers. we had a hitch-to-truck camper and you use, in it's septic and greywater system, a solution that helps it biodegrade and such. very cool idea. i'm dying to know how it goes!

We installed the Dooley today. We were lucky because there's sand under the top soil so it made installation pretty easy using a post hole digger. I'll let ya know in a week or so how it's working.

What's funny is that my husband was adamant that I scoop the poop today since he was the one digging the hole for the dooley. Guess who was all excited about scooping poop and putting it in the dooley? I didn't have to scoop one pile of poop today. Apparently scooping poop is fun if you have a dooley to put the poop into.

Update

Well, it's been a week and so far so good! I wasn't sure that it would work too well because it's still getting below 40 degrees at night and the instructions said it stops working when the ground temp goes below 40...so the ground must be staying warm enough. I added more water and enzymes today and I can tell that the other poop has already been broken down and pretty much liquified (sp?) so I added more poop. I was holding back on putting more in there because I wanted to make sure it was working ok.

I figured it just goes into the ground, is there holes in the bottom of it?

There's holes near the top, on the sides. You're supposed to add a gallon of water and a tablespoon of enzymes once a week. When you add water the other stuff goes out the holes on the side and into the ground.

Does it smell? Is it good for the ground around it?
I bag it in the winter and flush it in the summer. I have little dogs so flushing it is not that hard. I often wonder what the neighbors think when I pick it up and carry it into the house.
I also wondered what the neighbors would think if they saw me getting Belle's urine sample. Sneaking around after her with a pill bottle. They probably thought Jay made me do it so we didn't get yellow spots!

I haven't noticed a smell from it, yet. The lid fits on pretty snug so I think the only time you would smell anything is when you flip open the lid to add to it. But, so far I haven't noticed a smell.

Supposedly it's enviromentally friendly and the enzymes and bacteria are "natural". I was reading one of the customer testimonials that the person's grass was really green around it, so I would think that it's ok. Plus, the hole you dig to put it in is supposed to be 4 feet deep. I would think that having the overflow go into a hole that deep shouldn't hurt any plants or flowers on the surface.

Rhonda, I saw that in my dog.com catalogue and asked myself, "How on earth does this flying saucer work"?

It sounds so cool! I am glad it is working for you!

We thought about getting one awhile ago, but never got around to it. Now that my sister is moving and taking her 3 dogs with her, it might be practical with just two dogs.
