Toilet Drinking
I am so disgusted...I know dogs and cats sometimes do this, but my current foster dog Brandy seems to prefer toilet water to her fresh water in the kitchen. It is kind of gross and at times like this I am glad she doesn't give kisses...
I have started leaving the seat down now so she cannot get into it, as it just totally disgusts me...does anyone else's dog do that??
I used to have a cat who did that too...

Every male dog I've had does this, but I've never had a female do it. It's pretty bad when you need to use the bathroom and have to wait in line behind your dog.
I strongly suspect this is why he thinks it's okay to pee in the dining room. After all, we go in his water dish.

Haha...Brandy often sits around like she is the queen...so when she goes and drinks from the "huge, porcelain water dish" it kind of defeats the purpose of being a classy dog!

My female dog doesn't go upstairs in our house so she doesn't drink out of our toilet but when we stay in a hotel, she makes a beeline straight to the toilet to have a drink. It's really gross though because she usually gets to it before we can put the lid down and after she takes a drink, water just pours out of her mouth all over the toilet seat (she's a Great Dane with big hangy jowls, lol). Not pleasant if you don't know she did it and you go to sit on the toilet, haha.

Well toilet water is just as clean, or sometimes cleaner than tap water!! Shocking to hear but true. I find it gross too, and I leave the seat down too, but as long as you do not have cleaner chemicals in the toilet, it is safe.

Only one of my dogs has ever taken a drink out of the toilet. I put a couple squirts of vinegar in there, & he found out he preferred the water dish

Most of our dogs have been toilet water drinkers.. apparently they are drawn to it because it's colder than out of their water dish I'm not sure because I am unwilling to personally test out the theory

lol we bought the child lock, he chewed it off...he will drink from his bowl, drink it all very fast then hit the toilet lol so we have bought a bigger bowl, then 3 bowls lol...he also gets ice cubes in them and all that, but I think when he was living with my brother it was something ignored so he just doesn't know better lol but we are trying...
