Tomorrow Is The Day!
Well, I can't believe it - but ...
Tomorrow morning I have to drop Remy off to be spayed
I'm SO nervous, I can't believe I am reacting this way!
She's just so, so tiny! I know that if the Vet can't intubate her - he can't spay her. She hasn't gone into heat, although we know she is very close!
All you Vet Techs out there ... I know there is always a risk with anesthesia. Can a dog that is just under 3 pounds be safely intubated and put under general anesthesia?
She has to spend the night there - will there be someone with her? They don't just leave them alone unmonitored all night - do they? I'm sorry for the stupid questions
I'm just so super attached to this little booger! It's been years since I had a female dog. My last females were my Collies and when they were spayed I don't remember being this worried!
I even gave her a full bathing and grooming yesterday - and put a pretty pony tail in her hair, groomed her ears and feet.... so she would be nice and clean for the vet
I'll pick up all the food an water tonight at 9:00pm....
I'll keep you posted on how she does!

Awww Deja... I know how you feel & will be going through this in a month or 2... I'm sure she's going to be just fine, I don't see a vet doing something knowing that anything will go wrong... I'll keep both of you in my thoughts tonight/tommorow

Aww! I hope everything goes well! I have never had a dog as small as her, so I have no clue on all the things that go with spaying such a small baby, but Im sure your vet is great, so try not to worry Give Remy kisses for us tonite and tomorrow morning!

I always feel incredibly guilty when I take a pet in to be spayed or neutered. She should be ok.

I hope your baby will be okay ... I can't answer for your vet but I know mine has an overnight nurse that stays with them ... they don't just say that either because I've called at ungodly hours to check up on my babies when they go in ...
I looked up Ethel's info and she went in to be spayed at 3.8 lbs ... I hope this helps.
Don't feel bad about feeling bad ... I cried when I had to take Ethel in.

Oh LindaLou! Your baby girl will be fine - but I know you'll still be a wreck tomorrow (you are WAY too much like me! )
Tito Burrito was only 3.5 lbs when he was neutered. He didn't stay all night though...I brought him in the morning and he came home about 4:00. He slept that night and the next day was just fine. The vet told me that small dogs usually recover quicker than the big dogs. I remember Bach being out of it for a day or two.
I'll keep you both in my thoughts! Even when we've been through it before, we still get nervous - your feelings are completely valid!
(((((hugs))))))

Awww little Remy! I know she will be fine, everything should go great.
I know we like to keep the pups overnight incase there is any problem or bleeding, that way they are already at the clinic if they need someone. Plus we always give pain meds so thats another reason we like to keep em.

aww linda *hugz* I just had biscuit speayed then!! She is recovering at the clinic! I wasn't nervous at all...I mean I got to watch the operation (which was pretty cool seeing your own dogs innards!) so I knew she was fine! Remy will be fine! Even though she's small she'll be fine....we spay/neuter ferrets and rats and Remy is bigger than them! We don't usually like to keep our animals overnight cause we are a small run clinic, not a hospital, and don't have the man power to have someone watch them constantly but if they do stay the vet goes and checks on them reguraly! she'll be fine girl! The vet wouldn't do it if it wasn't possible!

Awww, you guys are awesome - thank you so much. Just knowing that you are all pulling for her is making me feel much better!!
It's a big relief knowing that her weight shouldn't be an issue *whew*!!!
I just gave her kisses from Auntie Sharon, Auntie Jodi and Auntie Jackie!! She said "I love my crazy Aunties" hehehe
It's comforting to know that someone will be there keeping an eye on her... I knew in the back of my head - that had to be the case. I can't imagine they leave post-surgical patients alone I can be such a worrier.
Carmen - isn't surgery neat? I never saw animal surgery in person, but I've seen enough human surgery!
I had a long talk with her tonight and told her what was going to happen and that as soon as I could bring her back home I would - and to be a good girl for the vet.
Now- another question! She's never shown any signs of hypoglycemia. She's been NPO since 9:00pm tonight. I had to pick up ALL the food and water because she loves to eat from Jack's bowl and Max's too. They were sitting by their food bowl mat just looking at me like I was going to starve them... silly dogs!
If his surgical schedule runs late and she goes without food for that long - is she at risk for her glucose level dropping? Can they give her IV electrolytes/glucose while she waits?
I'm going to bring her little bed, her crate (so I can bring her home safely with the abdominal incision) and her favorite blankie that she sucks the corner of, and her favorite little beanie baby.
Umm... is that like - major dork mode, or what?
Jodi - oh man, LOL - that is so true! It's good to know I am not the only nervous, anxious, stress-monkey!! (I know you are too )
Scarlette - yeah! I do feel guilty, responsible and really worried, even though my rational mind is saying everything is going to be ok. I'm in total dork mode!!
Thank you - just knowing all of those good vibes will be going to the Remster tomorrow, it really, really helps!
I'll keep you posted. She's not in her crate tonight, she's snuggled up with Jim - right in his armpit. The big softie *snort*
As soon as I know she's out of surgery I'll post... and keep you updated.
Elf - I'll be calling at those ungodly hours to check on her too!!
I'm going to miss her so much .... and yanno I am a big stress-monky and a worry wart - she's my baby!
I have a bunch of pictures I need to dump off my camera - I'll take some when she gets home too, then do a picture fest!

Linda I can't help you on the glucose thing! I'm just a girl who's in training!!!lol But I'm sure that either brandy or steph will fill you in!!! And yes surgery is awesome! I don't like watching the initial cut...just seeing the skin seperate is kinda icky to me but after that cut I love to watch!! My boss (the vet) was in such a funny mood today and once he was stitching the skin up he said to me 'oh look Carmen part of your dog is over there...but look part of her is here too, what happened to your dog!' This sounded very funny from a 65 year old man!!!
Oh and I should add that any patients we have that need constant care go to the vet hospital five minutes away from us!!! We are not inhumane and just say 'oh she'll be right' and leave them there if they are a really sick animal!
I used to worry soo much when getting animals speyed/neutered cause it was a long wait to hear if they'd come out ok but I didn't even tell Biscuit was what happening!!! I just wasn't worried....it had to be done....I seen a majorly infected uterus on Friday that looked like it was about to explode and it was cause the dog was nine, wasn't speyed and had never been bred. can't think of the technical term right now but it was a firm decision for me!!! This dog hadn't eaten or gone to the toilet for a week before the owners bought her in and she was very weak and we nearly lost her.....after seeing that I just went 'right book biscuit in!'

I'll be thinking about you guys tomorrow! I know how stressful it is on us mommies, but they always do fine! Ya know that "what's your problem" look they give us? You're gonna be getting that from little miss Remy
