Sorry Roz but things are different here...the shelter he would have gone to keep dogs for as long as they possibly can. My first dog was in there for four months. They aslo have people go and train the basics to dogs that are in there to make them more appealing and they have an animal behaviourist go and assess the dogs so when you go to the shelter there is a list of things the dog needs...training, no small children, other animals, etc. In their really busy times they will keep a dog for two weeks but when they have the room they stay for as long as possible and then there are people who foster them after there is no room left there to give them an even longer chance. Chances are he could have found a home if he went to the shelter so my opinion stays the same on that one.
Thanks for all the support guys.

Don't apologize for things being different there! I forgot you were in Australia. lol. It's good that dogs have more of a chance there.

I am very cynical about the shelters around here, esp. those in Hawai'i. I have lots of bad stories about them, some ridiculous. Actually, many are. A dog like that dane/mastiff wouldn't have been kept alive 48 hours. I can sadly guarantee that.

Roz forutnately things aren't as bad here...they aren't great and need improvement still but the shelters are learning slowly. They always have big things about the rspca on tv and such so the woman would had to have known that the dog could've had a chance.....she just didn't care enough.
