update on the chaquita problem w/new question

well, for those of you who remember, my dog chaquita was eating up my carpet. so anyways, i have finally purchased a gate. i had to get it online to get a tall one. i keep them in the kitchen now. my kitchen is about 11-12 feet by 3 feet. (i live in an apt). anyways, this has of course fixed the carpet thing (for now) but there is another problem. actually i've always had this problem...when i leave and there's no one here, chaquita gets nervous and she poopies (even if she's JUST gone outside). she does this if i leave for 2 minutes or 3 hrs. i feed her 2 half-sized meals a day (per vet to help). well, when i leave her in the house free, she poopies somewhere and that's that. now that she's in the kitchen though, she poopies and then (i guess she is kinda more freaked out) walks in it and smears it everywhere. these are my ques:

1. what do i do about the poopie thing? will it go away as i have her longer and she gets used to the kitchen? does she need to see vet for meds for anxiety?

2. i know that putting her in a tiled area isn't curing her carpet habit. how will i ever cure that? will she grow out of it or will she always have to be locked up in a tiled area? i don't think its a nervous thing (carpet) cause she tries to do it when i'm here. i think its like penny's wall chewing (which penny grew out of). but who knows?

That's a tough one. That's part of why I've been reluctant to get a crate for Scrappy, I want her to learn how to behave in the house, not just keep her out of that situation forever (not possible). I don't think there is an answer for you. You'll just have to hang in there and see I guess. You could try talking to your vet and see if they think the meds would help. It sounds to me like she either has an anxiety problem or is just plain stubborn. Good luck

Hmm this is a tough one. I would talk to the vet. I may have mentioned this before, but what are you feeding her? My dog Jasmine had the worst time with potty issues, and it always seemed she was having an accident (along with loose stools). They oringinally thought she had something wrong with her kidneys, but thankfully all her tests were normal. We even went to a specialist, and her conclusion was her stomach issues were from a food allergy to something in Science Diet. We put our dogs on Solid Gold, and Jasmine has been doing great on this food. My vet also suggested some behavioral training for us as well, if problems persisted. There is also medication. I agree with Becki, this sounds like an anxiety issue and I would seriously talk to your vet about it.

well, since i wrote last, things have been going really well. everytime i have left them (for 2-3 hrs at a time) they have done nothing bad! yah. i think chaquita figured out that poopying everywhere was miserable. i hope things keep going well. thanks for the advice.
btw- she's eating Nutro for puppies (she's 10 months old).
