Vet appointment
Ein was on his best behavior in the exam room, as usual. Didn't flinch for any of his shots or during his exam. Everyone at the vet's office loves him because he's so well behaved and so cute. The vet wasn't concerned about his weight at all, and said as long as he doesn't gain any, he's fine (big relief). He still weighed 30 lbs, but he seems to have lost some fat and gained some muscle.
Colleen weighed 41.5 lbs (she was 40.5 when the foster took her to the vet almost 2 weeks ago); the vet said she needs to gain at least 5 pounds. No signs of the mange coming back. They ran a few tests on her eye. Tear production was normal, no signs of Collie Eye Anomaly, no damage to the retina, optical nerve or cornea that she could see. She said there was alot of inflamation and she was very light sensitive in that eye. Was slightly concerned that she felt it looked like it might be causing Colleen some pain. Said she could rule out alot of causes, but couldn't pin point exactly what it was. She's thinking it's likely a bad case of conjunctivitis, an allergy problem, or a blocked tear duct. They will save the tear duct theory for last because she has to be put under anesthesia to have the duct flushed/cleared. Going on the conjunctivitis idea, I got three prescriptions for her. An oral (liquid) anti inflamatory, an antibiotic eyedrop and a steriod eyedrop. They want to see her back in a week to 10 days to check on the eye, so we'll be going back next Saturday. While we were there, we also got her microchipped.
Keep your fingers crossed that these medications help her feel better. I hope she's not in too much pain, and I want her to get better soon so that it doesn't bother her anymore!

After seeing a shepherd come in with a gunshot wound: "You know we pretty much just paid for Ein all over again." (Pats him on the head.) "I'd do it again if he needed us to."
Lesson: Remember to take time to think about what's truly important. Oh, and give your pets a hug.
