Wild Doggie Party- and- Update on Jack's Lyme

Hi Everyone,

Well here is my rant of the day and an update on Jack's Lyme Disease...

I took my daughters and neices (total 7) to NYC for the day on Friday. It was a rainy miserable day but they had fun anyway.

Jack and Max were confined to the kitchen with access to their crates, toys and water. Jack is able to roam the house freely without making a mess of any kind but Max is too young- has separation anxiety and can't be trusted yet. Crating him for more than 4 hours wasn't an option - so... I confined them both to the kitchen thinking that Max would have an accident or two and it would be easy to clean up the tile.
HA!
When we got home I ran in expecting to be greeted by my loving doggies - but no one was in the kitchen!
HA!
I had double gated the hallway (one gate on top of the other) to make it impossible for Max the jumper/climber monkey dog to escape. I also closed the doors to the dining room and tied a rope around the door knobs (they are double doors)- AND put a chair butted up against the doors.
HA!
It was a plot - a conspiracy! They must have rammed on those double doors until the rope was loose enough and the chair moved.... Freedom!!
I came home to the remnants of a wild doggie party! My den was torn to shreds! Books, magazines, papers were ripped to bits all over. The baskets on my coffee table were emptied and strewn all around the room.
The large plants in my living room were pulled apart and flung around. In the middle of my white rug was a poopie present from Max.
The upstairs was even better! Max chewed on and ate every flavored little lip gloss he could reach. Torn up the girl's magazines, chewed and thrown around a box of random tampax that was left on a desk chair...
Nothing of value was lost - it was just a mess! I grabbed a bag and cleaned it all up. A while later I was tired, cranky and annoyed- I was in my socks storming around the kitchen picking up dog toys and BAM - up in the air I went landing flat on my face-
The outcome- torn ligaments in my hip and a baddly sprained ankle- and a sprained lower back.
HA!
So - I am confined to bed for a week.
Jack on the other hand...
He is doing great! I did tons of research on Canine Lyme disease and everything I read said to expect to see results from the antibiotic within 48 hours. I did! He is no longer limping, he looks much better in general, he is eating better and he's jumping on and off my bed like nothing ever happened! I am so happy and relieved.
I will continue his course of antibiotics for the duration. He will see the vet next week to check his progress. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that things keep going in the right direction! I am thinking that since the limp is gone the vet may decide that it was caused by the Lyme and he doesn't have an ACL tear.... and he won't have to subject him to anesthesia to X-ray the leg??

Anyway - thanks for letting me vent! LOL When I think about the whole wild doggie party now it makes me laugh- but - whoa - what a sight to come home to!!

Have a great day everyone!

Whew! Lordie, I'm wore out just from reading that. It never ceases to amaze me what dogs can get into. I would love to know what's going through their minds sometimes ...

So - now Jack's okay, and you're laid up. Do you suppose he's laughing at, and making fun of you as he's jumping on and off the bed ?

Glad to hear he's okay - NOW, you get some rest - and get better soon too !!

Oh man, I am so sorry that happened, I know EXACTLY what coming home to that type of thing is like I'm glad to hear that nothing irreplacable is lost though. Then to get hurt on top of all that, talk about adding insult to injury, or is that the other way around in this case I hope you heal up quickly, I know sprains aren't fun and I can only imagine the torn ligaments!

Thanks Lori - I'll be just fine with a few days rest!

LOL Sharon- I know he's thinking *something*! It's the little one who caused all the mess! Jack has been on my bed with his head on my knee giving me sad puppy eyes - lol!

Max has been bouncing around my room yipping for me to get up and play fetch or work him in the yard!

It's all good though- when else do you ever get forced to lay in bed and do *nothing* for a few days? LOL I even have slave labor- a 16 year old daughter to take care of things while I'm laid up. It's going to pour rain here for the rest of the week anyway... a good time to catch up on some reading and sleeping!

Take care...
Deja

Thanks Becki! It's true - the story is funny and could have been sad- he could have gotten in to wires or eaten something horrid.... *shudder* I don't even want to think about it!

This is one high energy puppy, Max the terror! I just adore them when they are puppies - but there is a lot to be said for the well behaved adult who's turned into your trusted best friend!

As for me? I'll be just fine... I am used to being injured- I have a chronic thingie that sets me up for all kinds of fun and games!
Deja :blob1: I bounce back quick

Are you sure Jack didn't have something to do with at least some of it ? When I kept finding trash tore up, I ALWAYS blamed it on Dutchy ... my little Blackie couldn't do such a thing! HA! I caught that little sucker red-handed, pulling Subway wrappers out of the living room trash can ! (I keep telling hubby "Don't put food wrappers in there" but, he doesn't learn)
So, over the years when it's mainly Dutch that's gotten in trouble, I wonder how much Blackie helped ! I'm convinced that he tells Dutchy what to do because he's bigger, and Dutchy complies. Talk about conspiracies !

Sharon- LOL! Yanno, you are probably right! We all know that Jack has an underwear/sock/feminine product fetish *gross*... and he's the stuffed toy mutilator!! He is by no means the innocent little angel I make him out to be - LOL

He has mellowed tons over the years and I suppose with the new puppy doing the obvious puppy rampaging it's easy to blame him for everything! Did you ever see a puppy get the *zooms*? I don't know what else to call it? He goes into this zone where he just starts zooming at lightening speed all over the room rounding corners so fast he looks like a blur! It's hillarious...

Anyway- yah I am sure Jack had his paw in the mischief but those little bits of paper and whatever - that's definately Max's trademark ...
Gotta love them!

It was more funny and just one of those weird chaotic moments in life that you look back on and crack up at - although - I do have a very sick sense of humor lol!

Capn I think this is the perfect post to show Ray about crate training LOL.

Deja, if it makes you feel better, my dogs decided to dig big ole holes right through the walls of the house. Aye! Luckily they were confined to one room or we would have come back to a frame and a roof.

Dena- OMG - LOL It's not really funny - but oh man!

Yanno - my dogs *are* crate trained! I was gone for the entire day which was way too long to leave them crated- so I confined them to the kitchen- which I thought was the next best thing!

Maybe this is a good example for capn to use in favor of crating!

It goes to show ya- our sweet innocent loving poochies really can go off the wall bonkers when we aren't around!! And I call myself experienced with dogs and training- *cough* *sputter*
*banging head on desk*
