a few R.E.S quetions

my turtles shell is peeling... thats just fine and normal right? i think i read somewhere that it was, but i dont know where!

she is about 12 inches and living in a 20-30 gallon long tank with no filter. the water hes very dirty quickly and daily i empty about 80 to 90 precent of the water. is that too clean? and i am suppose to use water conditioner to like i do with fish right??

i was going to get a turtle dock, but its out of my price range. right now he just has some wood from last winter in there, and its falling apart and getting all nasty so i am trying to think of something else to do for his tank. maybe he would like some drift wood from the lake, or some slate? or should i just stack some bricks?

I would definatly suggest getting some type of filter. I know you said before that you might get a rubbermaid type tub, are you still going to? That would help with the dirty water.

Im not exactly sure about the shell. Some peeling is normal, but you could get some turtle wax type of stuff to put on just to help, im not sure what it is called though. Do you have a calcium supplement for him?

As for the wood, I would take that out. Just use some bricks for now, you can clean those easily. I would put them under the basking lamp.

i am unsure about the rubbermaid tubs. they would give her more room, so i really should get some. it will have to wait until friday.
about the basking lamp, she is outside and a part of her enclosure gets sun. i see her basking most of the afternoon.

nope, no calcium supplement yet. same kind as for the other reptiles?

with the rubbermaid container they have some huge ones, but they are tall and not long. is that still good? i am worried about her not being able to get up to her basking spot if i got one of those containers.
i need one either way, the sun can get very hot through the glass.. but i have a theomometer in there, and so far it has only been about 98 - 100 degrees right in her basking spot.

thanks for the link.

I think that I have seen long ones at Target. You might just have to look around.

You water is probably getting so dirty becasue he is outside. Alot of sunlight and all that. ITs good he is getting really sunlight though. Maybe you could keep him in a kiddie pool while he is outside? Those you can get about anywhere and they are like $10.
