Here's another one of our babies, Klasha. Our Burmese have their web page at http://hedgehogvalley.com/burmese.html

Lizgirl will become famous soon enough
Way cool!

I have always wanted a turtle. How difficult is it to get set up for one of those guys? Are they messy? What are the pros and cons?

The Burmese do need outdoor space and moderate to high humidity. They don't hibernate, so they need a big indoor space for the winter. For winter, they also need UVB and UVA light, and warmth. They also like to soak and to be misted several times a day. They can eventually get very big (60+ lbs), so that has to be prepared for, too! The nice thing about the Burmese is that they can be personable, don't dig burrows, and eat a more varied diet than most tortoise species. =) I've been in love with them for a looong time and was so happy to finally find two to join our family!

Toirtis, have you come across anything on sexing m. e. emys? If I had to hazard a guess, I'd guess that we have two girls (based on lack of concavity). It's funny, there's quite a bit of info available about breeding them, but I haven't found anything specific on sexing.

Try http://www.kingsnake.com and click on classifieds, then go to turtles and tortoises. That's where I found the person I got mine from.

They sound like excellent pets for the toirtis enthusiast with lots of room. How big of an enclosure is needed? And what do yours eat? I would like to know more about them. Since it is difficult to find any tortis or turtle species in this area (they are illegal to buy but not to own ) I also have trouble finding information on them.

They need as much space as possible. Right now mine are small, so they have a 3' x 4' outside enclosure. When they are bigger, it will need to be more like 20' x 20'. We just added a misting system so they can have their daily "rain." =) If you go to my website at http://hedgehogvalley.com/burmese.html there's a link to the tortoise trust site that has some really good info. =) They can eat a more varied diet than most tortoises. We feed a variety of greens, fruits, and veggies.
