pictures of my boys!
Here is my Hermans, with his plastic 'friend'. He got too excited last year and rubbed away part of his shell so we had to take her away lol
And here is my spur-thighed, he's currently in hibernation.
they are both in their fourties, my mum had them from being young. Twinkle, the Herman doesn't eat enough to hibernate any more, whereas Kelly, the spur-thighed eats about a lettuce a day!!

The little one has a wooden run to keep him from escaping outside, but inside they have run of the house. Have to be seperated cos they're both males, Kelly usually sleeps in a cardboard box in the kitchen under a load of newspaper at night while twinkle has a cat bed in the front room. However they do tend to sleep wherever they want to. Kelly is large enough to be let loose in the garden so long as we keep an eye on him. Kelly used to try and bite the dog's tail and paws and stuff and chased her round the garden, very very funny to watch. Twinkle just liked to cuddle up to her and he has a nice soft blanket to sleep under. They love to crash infront of the fire when it's not very warm out xxx

They are gorgeous! And it's so neat that they have free-range of the house . Are they trained to go to the bathroom in a certain spot?

No they are not trained, we never really thought about training them, it just means a lot of cleaning up (it's amazing how much they can hold) and you can tell when they are about to go but no matter how many times you pick them up and put them onto the paper they just won't learn! Doesn't matter though, we're all more than willing to pick up after them!

Nice looking tortises! It is awesome that they have been in your family so long! I love hearing that! So many people do not keep up with the long term commitment!
