Temporary Friend !!
I was sitting outside on the back steps today and I heard Snooper bark & then cry (just a little). She came running out of the woods with something in her mouth! I couldn't quite see what it was so I went and looked....It was a turtle!! I looked on the internet...he's a box turtle. He is so cute. He's black with yellow on his back and fat little back feet.
I'm not going to keep him forever but I am going to keep him until Kenny gets home tonight. I put him in a baby pool with only an inch or two of water. I also put a flat rock in the center that he can crawl up on to get out of the water. I put some leaves & sticks in the water also. It's fun watching him swim around.
When hubby gets home later we can take him back down to the pond. At least I get to have a turtle for a day! lol
Here he is...

Too cute! Thanks for sharing.
We get good samaritan turtles brought into the clinic all the time ... people need to watch out for them. So many have cracked shells or worse because of being hit.

Jodi he is a cutie, I could be wrong but he looks like a Carolina box turtle, I used to have a female that looked like him, she laid eggs in our care, but unfortunately none of the eggs made it as they were all damage this was years and years ago, she eventually went to a permanent home

Kim, that's what I was thinking he/she was too...I wonder if there is a way to tell the difference between male & female.
OMG, when I saw Snooper with a turtle in her mouth I've stopped on road sides and carried turtles from the middle of roads to the ditches and then here's my own baby girl with one in her mouth treatin him like a rawhide!!! Thank god she didn't hurt him! I know it's just instinct for Snoop but still...!!!!

I told you about Erin's transient turtle didn't I? The dog next door had it in his mouth and Erin took it away from him with all intentions of taking it to the creek across the street. By the time she went back to the next day to get the turtle, SHE had laid a couple of eggs. She went off for a couple of days then came back and laid some more. Zoe is really excited but Erin isn't real sure about that!

awww so cute! Ray really wants a turtle but I just don't know. I would want to really properly care for one, huge aquarium, the works, and we just cannot afford any more projects or pets at the moment!

I hear ya Capn. And actually when I was reading about Box Turtles on the net most sites were saying they shouldn't be kept in an aquarium. They need to be outside. I just don't have the time, energy or money right now! lol
We released our little buddy this weekend. Maybe I'll catch a glimpse of him again some other day!

I'm curious why you put him in a pool of water? Box turtles are land turtles and can't swim... they can sure splash around though. Did you let him go right where you found him? Box turtles do not take well to being relocated from their home range and often die if they are.

Well, I put him in the water before I knew that...He was only in the pool with water for a little bit (hour or so). He did spend most of the time messing around in the water and ignored the rock. Don't worry, I released him when hubby got home. He was just so neat (we've never seen one like him before) that I wanted to share it with hubby.
And since my dog brought him in to the yard I can't be sure where he exactly came from!! I didn't catch him or find him. My dog found him and carried him in to the yard.
