Turtle Wanted

I've been thinking of getting a turtle for a few weeks now. I'm interested in getting a red-eared slider, does anyone know anyone that breeds these guys in New Jersey? I'm having no luck finding any breeders anywhere near NJ.

Millimi, I don't know of a specific breeder in Nj, but most breeders will ship you a turtle. Shipping reptiles is a common practice. They are packed well and usually handle the trip fine. Here is a breeder in Florida. I can't reccommend them personally, but they sound reputable. I would contact them first before ordering. Then you can decide wether you want to buy through them or not.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask anymore questions if you need to.

What type of setup do you have to offer? There are sooooooooooooooooo many wonderful different types of turtles it would be best to consider where you want to keep it prior to picking one up. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors and with a variety of different habitat requirements.

I've also found that the "cheap turtles" (red ear sliders, cooters etc) tend to be more expensive to care for since they require a lot more space and equipment whereas the "expensive turtles" often times require less money in the environment areas...

http://www.TurtlePimp.com is a great place to obtain turtles from as well. I know him personally and have completed several deals with him for myself as well as others.

Personally, if you want a RES, I would recommend adopting. There are a lot of homeless turtles out there .. especially RES.

Wow, thanks for that info Elf! I never thought of adopting a turtle but it makes sense. I'll definetely look into that, and yes, I was planning on getting a RES. Now, to totally convince my parents. They're half for the idea right now, I'll find a way to get my RES!
