Thumbs up

turtles/tortoises in WA state

I'm new to this site, so please bare with me and forgive my ignorance with regard to etiqutte and use. I really want to know if anyone has any information on what types or turtles/tortoises do well in the Pacific Northwest (i.e. WA, OR). As a child growing up in Los Angeles I had a tortoise that I adored and would like to find one appropriate for this climate (if there is such a thing). Not necessarily an aquarium type, rather an outdoor critter. Thoughts or suggestions? Anybody? Buehler, Buehler, Buehler...

Let me be one of the first to welcome you to PT. When you get a chance, please introduce yourself in the introductions section.

I moderate the reptile section and will try to answer your questions.

The Washington Pond turtle is endangered and is highly monitored, so that won't do. However red eared sliders and painted turtles seem to do well in the northwest.

My web search informed me about the WA pond turtle... ...what a shame. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll do some further research and see what comes of it. Also, I'll be sure to introduce myself as you noted. How rude of me! ;>)

Thanks a million!

No rudeness on your part. I just like to get to know people.

I hope you find a turtle that will work in your area. Please keep us posted.
