I have actually found them crossing streams before, but you're right, they are terrestrial and aren't generally going to swim unless there is some strange circumstance involved.

Asian box turtles are a whole different ball of wax.

Here's another one to confuse you. It has flippers, a leathery shell... their overall structure is very much like a sea turtle, but yet they are freshwater. They're called pig-nosed or fly river turtles. They're found in Australia and get pretty big, 20+ inches shell length and around 50lbs.

I saw some of those guys at the Tampa show earlier this month. They are so awesome. Going for $500, too. Very cool.
