One of my ACF's died

Well my ACF Tricolo died today (RIP) and I'm just trying to find out why, and what I was doing wrong. I mean I only had him for a month. Since I got him he has been really small and skinny for a frog but I fed him everyday, cleaned the gravel every week and had him with a silent filter, he has no real plants cause I read they distroyed them, but he had a few hiding places, I had gravel at the bottom. When he'd been with me for two weeks I decided to get him a friend (which I put in another tank in order to make sure it had no illnesses to pass on to tricolo). Tonight I was gonna introduce them but I got home from uni and tricolo was dead. This morinng he was kinda still at the top but he always seems to do that so I don't think it was any strange behaviour for him.

Any suggestions on what went wrong? I really want Neon (my other ACF) to be happy and live a long life. Ah and Neon is not skinny at all he is a nice chubby frog size, he is also bigger than Tricolo was (about 2 inches when Tricolo was only about an inch).

What had you been feeding him and what were your water parameters?

I'm sorry for your loss .

I fed him frozen bloodworms, only a block every two days. The water parameters were ok, I mean more or less the same as my guppy fish tank. My radiators had been on so the temperature in the tank had gone up to 80F, I noticed before I went to uni and lowered the thermometer.

Aww, Im sorry. :C

I dunno, but I would suspect the gravel if your water is fine.
ACF are known for eating gravel and choking to death on it... If he was really skinny even tho you where feeding him before he passed, maybe he could have eated a small rock and had a blockage? That would explain the skinny-ness.

I would suggest changing them to sand. Thats what Mr. Squishy Man has, and hes doing great.
Also, you can try feeding them small crickets, Reptomin Baby Turtle food, or Beefheart if they look scrawny.

I would recommend feeding more than just bloodworms...it's better to feed a variety of foods . You can feed him krill, crickets, earthworms, and even pellets if he'll eat them.

I also agree with Jess about switching him to sand or bare-bottom. They have a tendency to swallow gravel by accident.

Awwww...I am sorry!
I had a few of these guys in the past...definatly one of my favorite froggies! I want another in the future.

They are gluttons and will put anything that can fit into their mouths and it is not always accidental (I have seen mine do it). When I got my very first one a couple yrs ago,I had some gravel in the tank and well...the frog swallowed some,it caused a blockage and he died.So sand is the way to go! And a varied diet.

Thank you again, I changed the gravel for sand. Neon is doing well. He is a very hyper frog though. Is this normal or is he nervous about me being around (I have only had Neon for a few weeks)?
