Abuse prevention month

April is child abuse prevention month. As we all know, there is a link between child abuse and animal abuse. Approximately half of women with a history of being abused by a partner have also seen their pets threatened, hurt or killed by their abuser. Many women in abusive relationships wont seek shelter for fear that their animals will be hurt or killed. Battered women's shelters don't accept pets. Some organizatiions and pet hospitals are setting up foster care programs to foster pets of abused women and children, until they can find a safe place to live, and then they can get their beloved pets back.
