Yeah I completly understand - I just think that people should be able to share their opinions, and hear others, without turning it into an argument I know there has been some issues with that lately though - but I'd hate not to be able to express my opinions on things just because other people don't agree with it.

I know.I often have to hold my tongue now, just because I do not want it to turn into arguments. It's sad.But some people cannot accept that other people have different opinions or they refuse to and if someone do not agree, they have to "turn on" them.

The debate forum must have been before my time. I try to treat everyone with respect, whether they agree or not.

Might I suggest that for this topic, people can give their own opinion, but not comment anyone elses?

You can suggest it, but don't expect everyone to listen, lol

A lot of folks get caught up in the emotion of it, and just won't have a rational exchange of information about this subject. Perhaps the real benefit to having open exchanges of information would be for people who DON'T know a lot about animal research (a lot of people!) as there's an awful lot of misinformation.

Countless drugs get discarded before they ever get to clinical trials because of what's noted pre-clinically. Every time you or your pet have a pain reliever, an antibiotic, a whatever; it's safe (as safe as reasonable) because of animal research. If animal research were eliminated YOUR pets, YOUR children, YOU would be the research subject, or actually, you'd be stuck with no new innovations in drugs since the FDA would never allow a new drug application without safety evaluations.

Our modern human lifestyles have the drug manufacturers in a frenzy...we want a pill for every darned thing, a new and innovative surgery to fix everthing. There are lots of alternatives to animal models, and they get used, extensively. But that last crucial step for safety, seeing how a drug affects blood pressure, or what happens during ADME...sorry, it requires in vivo research.

Ive seen really violent pics about animal testing, and I dont really agree with it. It isnt as bad tho if the animals r being treated humanly and all... the internet (and esp. PETA, not to cause an argument) overexagerates stuff alot, so I dont really know what to think. I try to avoid products that test on animals tho.

I have many issues with PETA myself.PETA seems to always cause debates! But I personally do not like them and find they are hypocrites.

I am against animal testing however. There is no need to test shampoos and things like that on a rat or a rabbit for example.

I don't like to see animals being tested on for stuff like shampoos and make up products either. I don't buy products like that that test on animals.

However, I'm not against using animals to test medical drugs and stuff like that. Every animal has a right to live, but if testing on a few could possable save millions of humans and other animals alike, then I think the sacrifice is warranted.

I'm a biology major in my college and currently working on my undergrad research - although I chose to work on a project that doesn't involve lab animals, many of my friends are working with mice/rats in the lab. The process of being able to work with them is VERY strict. If anyone at the school lab so much as forgets to feed a lab animal, or forgets to change a cage, then their rights to work with the animals is revoked. Before they can do any research they have to get approaved by an animal welfare comittiee that makes sure that the animals will be treated humanly.

I've seen a lot of pics of lab animals being treated very bad as well, but I think that that is usually the exception rather then the norm. In most animal testing labs, and in all of them that I've ever seen personally, the animals are treated well and the use of animals is very strictly regulated.

Isn't this the whole point of these forums Candyraver? People expressing/sharing their opinions on different topics and seeing how people feel about different things? For the most part, you can publicly agree or disagree with someone and yet still be friendly...

Ya I agree with all you guys. I'm not trying to start a debate, but I think PETA has a good cause saving animals and all, but I think they overdo it a bit. Ok, alot. And medical testing on animals isnt as bad (as long as its humane). Cause where do you think they developed all those life-saving medicines for your pets?

Sorry... I post to much.

Arguing about it can make it wrong if people take it too far, but you are definitely entitled to your opinion.
