Woman tries to find new home for injured dog
(Seneca Falls-AP) -- A Seneca Falls woman is looking for a new
home for Burnie, an injured dog she's been caring for since police
found her locked in an abandoned car in December.
Burnie is named for injuries she suffered while trying to
re-enter her owner's burning house. The late-December fire in the
Seneca County town of Junius badly burned the dog's face and torso.
Officers found Burnie and three other dogs on December 28th near
the state police barracks. They took the animals to a nearby animal
shelter.
Bernadette Nawn saw the dog there and took her in January
fourth. Nineteen days later, Burnie gave birth to eight puppies.
But Nawn is taking a trip and says she can no longer care for
Burnie. She's looking for a home for the two-year-old mixed-breed
dog, and her puppies.
However, adoptions can't continue until a judge rules whether to
return Burnie and the other abandoned dogs to their owner. The
owner was charged with not providing proper sustenance and is due
back in court this Thursday.
Seneca Falls is 45 miles east of Rochester.
