A judge has ordered that a local puppy miller's dogs be returned to him even after he pled guilty to
55 counts of animal cruelty. He is being given 21 days to sell or rehome all of the dogs. The judge ordered that he pay a $5,500 fine to the court, but no restitution to the Hawaiian
Humane Society, leaving the Hawaiian Humane Society with a bill of over $250,000* (the cost of caring for 63** dogs for the last year.) How...fair...
Also, a number of the dogs went to stay in foster homes. Their foster families are upset at having to return the dogs after having them in their care for a year. They hope to be able to convince the breeder to either allow them to keep the dogs or buy them (at a reasonable price.)
* Some say $250,000+ while others state $260,000+
** Some sources say 55, while others say 63 or 64.
