Legislation to Ban Foie Gras Moves Forward!
The California State Assembly Committee on Business and Professions voted today in favor of legislation (SB 1520) to prohibit the force feeding of birds to produce foie gras.
The force feeding practices used to produce foie gras cause the birds' livers to expand up to ten times their normal size, and it is so cruel that foie gras production is illegal in over a dozen countries. The progress of SB 1520 in the California legislature is a positive step towards banning this cruelty in the U.S. as well.
SB 1520 will now be addressed by the entire California State Assembly. California citizens are encouraged to contact their state assemblymember to urge him or her to vote "YES" on SB 1520!
Please also contact Governor Schwarzenegger and encourage him to do everything in his power to pass SB 1520. You can reach Gov. Schwarzenegger at Phone: 916-445-2841, Fax: 916-445-4633 or email
