If the owner of the other dog had been talked to by police, I bet he would have kept better track of his own dog.
I've found here that the police aren't as bad as you may think when it comes to properly restained pitbulls...ususally they are more than happy to see my dogs and pet them when we come upon the police

I've thought about that a lot. Looking back I wish I would've reported him. I didn't because we hadn't lived there long...and I didn't want to get the guy in trouble or have him lose his dog. And I didn't really want to have bad blood with my neighbor. Sorry if all that sounds silly. It's not so much I wish I would've done it because I got fined....its because his dog died. Its hard because I watched it happen. As soon as the fight broke out I called my husband and told him he needed to get home now!! We tried to break it up...but I didn't know my neighbors dog well enough to jump in. I didn't want to get hurt. I've learned my lesson now and if I'm ever in the situation where my neighbor wont keep his animals in his own yard I will report them.

Mandie, we've gotten so upset with what has happened in the past with our neighbors that I resorted to getting a private property sign.

I haven't put it up yet, but I plan on it. It hasn't been so bad lately, but I fear that it'll start up again, with kids jumping the fence, trying to climb on the garbage cans to get a ball stuck in the gutter, etc.

If it does, I plan on going over with Dan and talking to them. We cannot risk anyone getting hurt on our property.

I almost feel a bit fortunate that I moved to Finland. You can't do silly lawsuits here (like if a robber hurts himself while robbing your house he can sue you) and the Finnish response to things is usually more common sense than anything else.

The only group that really causes any neighbourly problems are usually Russians, and the police don't like them that much so they don't give them much leeway. (And Russians usually only live in the major cities Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, and Oulu.) Finns themselves are generally very non-confrontational. If you mind your own business, they mind theirs and everyone is happy.
