You really don't want to buy an animal from anything but a reputable breeder. Buying from Petsmart only encourages them to continue supplying the "puppy mill" type animals that they have. Yes, it costs more money to get a dog from a breeder, but you're paying for all the testing and good care that they've done to produce high quality pets. You don't spend the $$ and get a dog from a pet store and you end up paying $$$ down the road because of health problems.

It aggrivates me that it takes this much to get someone to investigate them. I have sent numerous e-mails to both petsmart and petco along with the news stations about multipule cases of animal abuse or neglect. I never get a reply even though I have even sent them pictures with proof. It sickens me. If someone would actually give a flip in the very begining it would have never of gotten that out of hand.

You always have to take everything with a grain of salt, too. I would never shop at Petsmart, and I work at a family owned pet store, and know where all the animals come from. I always have to be sceptical of videos and pictures of abuses and mistreatments. There is clearly a mill operation going on with lack of proper care of anything. But showing birds with their feet all messed up could have been from anywhere, or even a birth defect, ya know? People are messed up and think they can take advantage of animal's helplessness. I think some people try to dramatize things though as well. Horrible things are happening within this operation, but showing some dead animals didn't mean that they were "killed" or something, ya know? Animals die, even at respected breeders sites, so just showing dead animals is not proof of anything. *sigh* I hate animals abuse though...and people piss me off because they don't understand the animals.

Yes,that is true Clover.Animals die anywhere...but they should remove the dead ones.Leaving them there to rot and be eaten by the others is wrong.

I have seen a dead bird and dead mice in pet stores before, just left there.Upon mentioning it,the workers don't give a crap.So the other animals will start eating it and it will rot, giving opportunities for parasites, maggots and disease.

The dead animals should be removed as soon as they are discovered.
