Stop This Show On Fox

cross posting from another forum...

***

I wanted to give you an update about what I have done and found out
so far today. I just got a call back from Fox saying they got my
phone call complaining about the promo and are passing my complaint
on up the chain to the powers that be. So it is true that they do
monitor their Viewer Comments phone line quite closely, as I only
called about 2 hours ago.

The new show, which is tentatively called "Unhitched", not "Unhinged"
as I reported earlier, isn't scheduled to run until March 23. The
contact who called me said that because of the writers strike that is
a tentative date. So it's good that the show is not scheduled to
start right away, but we sure don't want even the promo to be aired
any more.

I have also talked with the woman at American Humane who is their
contact with the TV industry, and she is working on it from her end,
but she said that public response is very very important, so please
be sure to call the Fox Viewer Comment line at 310-369-3066 and leave
a polite message.

Please also post these messages to as many other groups as you can,
and let all your friends know. The more calls they get, the more
seriously they will take us.

Thanks all,
Debbie "The Rat Lady"

P.S. In case you missed it, the promo shows a scene where 2 boys put
a rat into a microwave oven and turn it on. Then it shows their
faces as they supposedly watch the rat being cooked. At they end,
one of them says, "That was the longest 9 minutes of my life," and
the other one says something like, "It looked like he was enjoying it
for the first few minutes."

Please call or email and complain about this show. After all the Michael Vick controversy i can't believe that fox would air something like this. The Farrely Brothers are connected with this show so if someone wants to call their agency and complain please PM me and I'll give you the number.

I don't think I've ever seen the promo, only read about it.

I don't think it matters if it's fake or not. I can't see how they can show this crap on TV with all the uproar with Michael Vick (don't get me wrong, I think Michael Vick is horrible). It seems like they are saying Michael Vick is bad for fighting dogs but yet it's okay to microwave a rat for amusement? I don't get it.

Well I haven't seen it since I don't watch much TV. I will look for it, however, and then give them a piece of my mind. It doesn't matter if it's fake... it's going to give stupid people ideas! /sigh! Why on earth would a scene torturing an animal seems amusing? I seriously wonder about people when this stuff comes up. If I was an executive, that wouldn't have made it to the air. How could something like that garbage get through? What if children are watching for crying out loud. ARG! This further supports my TV = garbage idea.

I've done rat handling for a movie, I can't see how American Humane would allow such a thing to actually take place. When I had rats on set, they made sure that I had food and water for them at all times, that they were appropriately housed (not crowded), and that they were properly handled on set. They stayed the whole time I was there with the rats, from 4 in the afternoon until almost 2am. The scene actually called for the rats to be sprayed with a "high pressure sprayer", and we went over it repeatedly with the props guy to make sure they weren't going to get hurt, that the water wasn't too cold, hot, or too powerful. We had a pile of rubber "stunt rats" for anything that might put a real rat at risk. I actually had one rat give birth to two babies just as we were about to shoot, so I had to delay the director while we separated her and her babies out from the rest. I had no idea she was even gravid, so it was kind of a surprise.

Now if they did it as a special effect, I can see it going forward regardless of animal activists' outrage... I just don't know why anyone would want to put such a thing on tv. Sometimes I wonder how shows like Fear Factor get away with the things they do, but primarily I think it's because they use things like bugs and reptiles, that no one really seems to care much about.
