Taking Care of Lost and Abandoned Pets - The Legal Quandaries of the Good Samaritan
By Keith A. Wood, Attorney, CPA
A recent question we received, which caught my attention, concerns the rights of adoptive pet owners who find lost and abandoned pets. This question particularly caught my attention, because I myself have been lucky enough to have adopted four abandoned cats of my own.
Anyone who has ever adopted a stray animal knows how quickly you can become attached to the new addition to your family. Adopting a lost or abandoned pet can also be very expensive. Veterinarian bills, shots, deworming expenses, and the like can quickly mount up.
