I have heard of MANY different ways to do this. I am interested in finding out how others cut their ferrets nails!
With 3 of my ferrets (my females) I have to use the scruffing technique or have someone else hold them as they will NOT sit still!
With my 4th ferret (male) he sits very well in my lap as if nothing is happening.
One very important thing to remember is never cut the quick of the nail. That is the vein so to say at the base of the nail. If you do apply some styptic powder, corn starch or even flour to help stop the bleeding and promote clotting. Also... always make sure that when you are cutting the nail be sure to cut it straight across so that flat portion meets the ground when they walk rather then cutting the nail sideways. Cutting the nail sideways tends to cause the nail to split & crack or sometimes even break.
