Fish For Beginners To Avoid
Fish For Beginners To Avoid

Unfortunately, there are many fish sold to beginners that really aren’t good beginner fish at all. Some of these fish are difficult for even the most experienced aquarist to care for! In this guide I hope to talk about some of these fish and debunk the myths surrounding them. I’ve included pictures to make identification easier since many pet stores use common names which range from being confusing to completely misleading.

Keeping Our Pets Safe - Are You Ready For Summer?
By Linda Vanator

As the weather changes from unpredictable to the full blown glory days of summer we shed the shackles of winter and our thoughts turn to spending time outdoors. Summer vacations, swimming, hiking, backyard barbeques and pool parties, lazy days at the beach, gardening, lawn care or just taking advantage of the long days spending more time with friends and family.
Let’s not forget about our pets! Often, as summer turns our heads, our pets are spending more time alone, be it in the house or out in the yard. Maybe your pets are always with you, taking rides in the car, visiting parks or even road tripping with you to pet friendly camp grounds, parks, picnic areas or hotels.

Ouch! What Was That?
Let me mention out the outset that I am not a veterinarian. This article is just to give you some basic information, and a point of reference to start your own research. For serious stings or symptoms, I ALWAYS take my animals to a vet. Every animal reacts differently to every situation. You know your animal best, and your judgment is what counts for your pets. I have identified most of these creatures with their scientific names, these are helpful to use when searching on the internet for more infomation and pictures. This will help you and your vet in the process of trying to identify the "stinger".

When possible, try to capture the offending creature and take it with you to your vet. This could help a great deal. Remember also, that the smaller your pet, the more serious the sting may be. A sting that might only be an "inconvenience" for a St. Bernard might be fatal in a Yorkie.
