Hi everybody,
We have always had labs and have nursed a few of our dogs through some serious time but we have never come across puppy strangles before.
Basically we have a 12 week old puppy lab is was fine and healthy but last week went off his food and become very sleepy. we noticed some small spots inside his ears so took him to the vet. The vet quickly diagnosed it as Puppy strangles desease (swollen head and glands). He is being treated with streriods and antibiotics at the moment.
Our vet who as alway been honest with us did warn that this is a particularly nasty condition and that things will get worse beore they start to get better. He is to be kept on steriods and antibiotics for the next few weeks. our vet also warned us that this can cause long term scarring. We love and care for him so are not too concerned how he ends up looking but was wondering has anybody else nursed a puppy through this and could anybody give us some tips as to any further action we could do to ease what will be a unpleasant time for our pup.
Many thanks Baxter
